Across the vast federal bureaucracy, Donald J. Trump's arrival in the White House has spread anxiety, frustration, fear and resistance among many of the two million nonpolitical civil servants who say they work for the public, not a particular president.
At the Environmental Protection Agency, a group of scientists strategized this past week about how to slow-walk President Trumps environmental orders without being fired.
At the Treasury Department, civil servants are quietly gathering information about whistle-blower protections as they polish their resumes.
At the United States Digital Service - the youthful cadre of employees who left jobs at Google, Facebook or Microsoft to join the Obama administration - workers are debating how to stop Mr. Trump should he want to use the databases they made more efficient to target specific immigrant groups.
"It's almost a sense of dread, as in, what will happen to us," said Gabrielle Martin, a trial lawyer and 30-year veteran at the Denver office of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, where colleagues now share daily, grim predictions about the fate of their jobs under Mr. Trumps leadership.
"It's like the movie music when the shark is coming," Ms. Martin said, referring to Jaws, the 1975 thriller. "People are just wary - is the shark going to come up out of the water?"

It's almost a sense of dread, as in, what will happen to us ... like the movie music when the shark is coming ... and it's you Freepers fault for backing the Donald!
Drain the swamp!!
Servants?????????????
Need script of the most boisterous, animated laugh ever.
Liberal tears on college campuses and bureaucrat fears in government buildings. Smells like gun oil and racing fuel!
To hell with cutting their budget by 50%. Cut it 100%!!
“non-political” government employees are in dread about the new administration. Uhhhhhh......wouldn’t that make them political?
It’s pretty obvious that they have too much time on their hands if they are planning this kind of stuff.
If they are TRULY nonpolitical AND productive employees, they have nothing to worry about, except possible shutdown of a department that is useless.
Civil “servants”??? “servants” = unproductive, often-viewing-porn-at-work drones with bad attitudes. I hope these smug losers have “a sense of dread”.
So in other words, according to the NYT, President Trump’s presence in office is a hate crime against Federal government bureaucrats.
No doubt then they will need their own safe spaces where they can go out and assault Trump appointees and people out on the street, destroy some storefronts and set things on fire.
Payback's a bitch.
“Nonpolitical civil servants”........”work for the public”.....
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
They were sure working for the public when they stole from me.
The dirty thieves should be worried.
It’s a culture of accepted thievery.
They need a back-up from all computers, this is government data, paid for by we, the people and they need to be charged if they erase any of it.
There is no such thing as a ‘non-political” civil servant.
In fact, would go far as saying there are NO civil servants. They seem to be more in the genre of wanna be masters as opposed to servants.
EVERYTHING IS POLITICAL WITH “THESE FOLKS”
Half of them are NOT NEEDED and often get in the way of good public service
let them feel some dread, this will help them a lot...by causing them to start looking outside for real jobs...before their gravy train swamp gets Drained!
(some of them are good people, they just are NOT needed in such huge numbers is all, which is why so many of them have nothing...or nothing genuinely useful to do)
The nyt had no such concerns when there were Republicans being replaced.
Only now they're looking for an opportunity to blow the whistle? How about all the crimes you did and saw under the previous administration?
Most of these commies would serve better ground up for dog food or fertilizer.
Ask these “non-political” drones for their resignations or offer them a rope.
