This entire thread is stupid. We are talking Episcopalians. It's a social club. You can criticize us for wearing Gucci loafers, but not for our religious doctrine.

President Obama was criticized by Republicans for attending a church led by Jeremiah Wright, who repeatedly criticized the United States for being, in his own opinion, an evil terrorist nation. People wondered, how could Obama sit through sermons like that, year after year? Didn't that mean that at the very least, Obama didn't have any serious problems with what Wright was saying?
Well, we saw after eight years of Obama that that was probably true – that Obama saw America in a bad light. That's why he kept trying to "fundamentally transform" it.
But what about Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch? He belongs to a far-left church that embraces marriage redefinition, gun control, and the theory of man-caused global warming.
He belongs to St. John's Episcopal Church in Boulder, Colo., the Episcopal diocese of Colorado confirmed on Wednesday. Church bulletins show that the judge has been an usher three times in recent months. His wife Louise frequently leads the intercessory prayer and reads the weekly Scripture at Sunday services, and his daughters assist in ceremonial duties during church services as acolytes.
The first word that St. John's uses to describe itself on its website and Facebook page is "inclusive," and the church is led by a female rector. On its website, the church encourages members to write letters to Congress asking for actions addressing climate change.
That's not all. Its website also calls for members to lobby their congressmen for more gun control.
Rev. Susan Springer has said she is pro-gay marriage and offers blessings to same-sex couples
The church's Rev. Ted Howard also signed a letter slamming the 'disrespectful rhetoric' directed at Islam as Trump floated a ban on Muslim immigrants[.] ...

There are millions of Catholics who are stuck with a Marxist Pope that I’m sure they disagree with.
They’re just waiting for him to die.
Many started leaving the church and going to other places, like the Anglican Church. There are a few Episcopal Churches that are still conservative, but few and far between, depends on the pastor. My Father died recently and the pastor at the Church we grew up in is pretty Conservative and voted for Trump, so we felt very comfortable with him doing the service. If he had not been, we would gotten someone else.
The last few presiding Bishops have been so Leftist I could not believe it. I haven't gone in years and won't.
It could be Gorsuch grew up Episcopalian and just doesn't want to leave the church. So I am not sure I would read that much into it.

Obama, attending Rev. Write's Church, which was already known as a 'liberation theology' jhaven, was chosen by Obama as it matched his anti-colonial philosophy.
Even Bernie Sanders was known as a Jew but not known as a practicing Jew, which to him was more as a heritage/ historical Jew
since he is a practicing Socialist/Communist which far out weighed his religious practice. So it is with many others, in that they attend Church from their own heritage, rather than confront Church leadership, even though their own personal beliefs differ from the pastor.
For some it is also a matter of convenience and geographic location, whereas for others it may reflect religious philosophy an ideology.
Judgement should be based upon how a person acts when no one is looking rather than what Church they attend.
9th Circuit judges must all be Pentecostals. They seem to be speaking in tongues when they issue a ruling.
I looked it up, there are 2 in Boulder an 1 in South Boulder. Don’t know if any of them are any more conservative.

What that “church” is selling is not membership in the body of Christ - but the perversion of the gospel in the spirit of anti-Christ.

Hell, NO. Compared to several of the PUKES currently on the SCOTUS, Gorsuch walks on water!!
This is no Scalia.
Statistics would tell you that white church going Catholics tend to be very conservative on most issues, whereas Hispanic Catholics and non-practicing Catholics tend to be pretty liberal. Jewish-Americans, practicing or non-practicing, tend to be very liberal on most issues, with a notable exception being Orthodox Jews (which are only 10% of American Jews)
The recent members of the court reflect those trends. The church-going Catholics (Alito, Scalia, Thomas, Roberts) hold conservative views. The non-church going hispanic member (Sotomayor) holds liberal views, and all the Jewish members, none of which are Orthodox (Kagan, Brennan, and Ginsburg) all hold liberal views.
The Episcopalian Church has become increasingly liberal on the issues, and its membership has rapidly declined over the years but those who remain Episcopalian tend to do so because they share those liberal beliefs. Of course we cannot assume that Episcopalian automatically = liberal, because there are a handful of conservative Episcopalians still remaining.
In the case of Gorsuch's church, there are two Episoplian churches in the city of Boulder, so Gorsuch could easily attend either without having having to go out of his way to attend a church in his denomination. One of the church's (St. Aidan's) leans conservative and stresses that it believs in traditional marriage. The other (St. John's) is very liberal and champions abortion on demand, "LGBT rights" and has a female "priest" that attended the "Womyn's March" in DC. Gorsuch chooses to attend the liberal one, and has for many years.
Draw your own conclusions. I know I've drawn mine.
Correct, because Sotomayor, by her own admission, is a non-practing Catholic who hasn't attended church regularly since she was a child. She is "Catholic" only on paper.
Personally I'd feel MORE comfortable if Gorsuch were "Episcopalian" on paper but hadn't attended in decades, vs. Gorsuch actively attending a church EVERY weekend to hear sermons from a far-left woman "priest" who preaches the virtues of gay rights and tree hugging all the time.
Ditto if Obama had only been a member of the United Church of Christ on paper, vs. eagerly hearing Rev. Wright's kill whitey rants every weekend.
But that's just me.
Yeah, worked out great for their side when we torpedoed Miers for not being conservative enough, and pushed Bush to pick Alito instead. Too bad we didn't unite behind Miers when we had the chance. < /sarcasm>
