Exclusive - Trump border 'wall' to cost $21.6 billion, take 3.5 years to build: internal report

By Julia Edwards Ainsley | WASHINGTON President Donald Trump’s “wall” along the U.S.-Mexico border would be a series of fences and walls that would cost as much as $21.6 billion, and take more than three years to construct, based on a U.S. Department of Homeland Security internal report seen by Reuters on Thursday.

The report’s estimated price-tag is much higher than a $12-billion figure cited by Trump in his campaign and estimates as high as $15 billion from Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

The report is expected to be presented to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary John Kelly in coming days, although the administration will not necessarily take actions it recommends.

The plan lays out what it would take to seal the border in three phases of construction of fences and walls covering just over 1,250 miles (2,000 km) by the end of 2020.

It will be pay for itself in no time by keeping deported aliens out and new ones from coming in. It will be nice to get the money back but the important thing is to plug the border ASAP.

damn sight cheaper than paying for all these refugees, health, food, housing, dental, education, etc. The throw in all the illegals too for all that plus those in prison who are illegally.

Yep I have no problem with the cost, and then we pass it on to Mexico at a later date.

https://fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/R42346.pdf

See p. 22 `Border Security’ and the map showing federal ownership of borderland.

The objections of “environmental impacts” are just claptrap, as are concerns about acquiring the desert land.

“In general, federal efforts to secure the border are subject to the National Environmental Policy
Act of 1969 (NEPA),46 which requires agencies to evaluate the potential environmental impacts of
proposed programs, projects, and actions before decisions are made to implement them. They also
are governed by related regulations (40 C.F.R. Part 1500) that require agencies to integrate NEPA
project evaluations with other planning and regulatory compliance requirements to ensure that
planning and decisions reflect environmental values.47 However, the Secretary of the Department
of Homeland Security (DHS) has authority under law to waive NEPA and other environmental
laws for construction of fencing and other barriers along the U.S. international borders to deter
illegal crossings.48
There are extensive federal lands along the southwest border. The lands are managed by different
federal agencies under various laws for many purposes, as described above.... “

$21 billion is the DEAL OF THE CENTURY! We already spend $113 BILLION every year on illegals...more than the entire cost of ObamaCare.

We’ll save that in four months.

I looked that one up.

You'r right.

That's what illegal aliens in the U.S. costs in just 4 months.

Even if we had to pay for it ourselves, which we won’t...,

It's a frightening thought: no, not the cost--which is well worth it, but the idea that we will not pay it.

calculator not handy.
Over 10 million dollars per mile?

“•Construct a new 2-lane undivided road – about $2 million to $3 million per mile in rural areas, about $3 million to $5 million in urban areas.
•Construct a new 4-lane highway — $4 million to $6 million per mile in rural and suburban areas, $8 million to $10 million per mile in urban areas.
•Construct a new 6-lane Interstate highway – about $7 million per mile in rural areas, $11 million or more per mile in urban areas.”

"The problems will be with lawsuits, and people who physically try to obstruct the project."

Yes, we are going to have to limit the court jurisdiction, or the Leftist lawfare and corrupt judiciary will stop the defense of the USA at every turn.
