So if the danger back during the Cold War was Russia possibly seizing German gold, and if (as they say) Russia is a danger of a similar magnitude today . . . why are they bringing the gold back home? Couldn’t have to do with a plan with respect to the euro currency, maybe?

First, deduct whatever debt Germany owes us.

More likely control through digital currency and the destruction of paper currency. They may be simply preparing to get rid of small denominations, for our own good.

They should check the bullion to see if it is fake.
Some real skeevy things went down on Obama’s watch.

Gold is a barbarous relic. What would they need to protect it for?

So the Fed finally came up with 300 tons to give back to the Germans (I’d suggest the Germans test it), or about 1/5 of what the Germans think they owned in the US.

I’d like to see President Trump demand an inventory of US gold reserves and publish the findings.

That is, if there is anything still there to inventory.

After all - it does belong to we, the people.

“The German central bank said it brought 111 tons of gold back from the Federal Reserve in New York last year.”

So is all our gold now at the Fed?

And I have to wonder how many of those bars used to be gold fillings?

(oops, I forgot the current SJW narrative is that the so-called ‘Holocaust’ never happened)

I wonder if the long time it took to ship it back was because the Federal Reserve was playing fractional Reserve banking games with the gold instead of boring and only slightly profitable storage. It took a while to untangle the German gold. Or else it was waaaaay in the back of the vault and they had to move crates of Beanie Babies out of the way to get to it.

“why are they bringing the gold back home?”

Why would they trust a country that keeps interest rates at zero for a decade and the currency printing presses running full time NOT to steal their gold?

Just last night I had a dream about Trump demanding an audit of Fort Knox, something that hasn’t been accomplished since (50?) years ago. It’s time.

Truthfully, there has long undercurrent of concern that a lot of the gold the US was tending was no longer as secure as it had been, for all sorts of reasons. Even the state of Texas recalled its gold stored in NYC.

Constitutionally, states can issue their own currencies but only if those currencies are backed by physical gold. And because of Obama, several states made overtures in that direction.

I see the future of reserve gold as rather peculiar.

Canada mints gold coins of very high purity, so high in fact, that they can be laser engraved with holograms. But pure gold is very soft, so these coins must be stored in individual boxes to protect them.

The US could do the same, but with ingots of gold. After purifying them to a very high quality, each wide and flat ingot would be numbered, like paper currency, but then every surface of the ingot would be laser engraved with a unique and very complex mathematical holographic pattern that would distinguish that ingot from any other.

Then sealed in a padded, tamper resistant box. The boxes would be quite strong, and stackable. They would provide low level security, but verification of the ingot would not rely on the box, but the hologram.

The object of the exercise is to create trouble free transfer without having to re-assay and restamp the gold.
