California Goes Confederate
Townhall.com ^ | February 9, 2017 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 02/09/2017 6:31:04 AM PST by Kaslin

Over sixty percent of California voters went for Hillary Clinton -- a margin of more than 4 million votes over Donald Trump.

Since Clinton's defeat, the state seems to have become unhinged over Trump's unexpected election.

"Calexit" supporters brag that they will have enough signatures to qualify for a ballot measure calling for California's secession from the United States.

Some California officials have talked of the state not remitting its legally obligated tax dollars to the federal government. They talk of expanding its sanctuary cities into an entire sanctuary state that would nullify federal immigration law.

Californians also now talk about the value of the old Confederate idea of "states' rights." They whine that their state gives far too much revenue to Washington and gets too little back.

Residents boast about how their cool culture has little in common with the rest of the U.S. Some Californians claim the state could easily go it alone, divorced from the United States.

Sound a bit familiar?

In December 1860, South Carolina seceded from the Union in furor over the election of Abraham Lincoln.

Lincoln did not receive 50 percent of the popular vote. He espoused values the state insisted did not reflect its own.

In eerie irony, liberal California is now mirror-imaging the arguments of reactionary South Carolina and other Southern states that vowed to go it alone in 1860 and 1861.

Let’s look at the advantages and disadvantages:
Advantage. Lose a major portion of the freaks in the US
Disadvantage. Would lose a large portion of the beach and oceanfront
Advantage. Lose the 9th Circus
Disadvantage. Lose a lot of farm and wine country
Advantage. That portion of CA could well vote to leave CA and join the USA
Advantage. Military bases would be relocated to inland states
Advantage. Get rid of Hollyweird
Advantage. Increase the national IQ

I’m running out of disadvantages, can anyone help me. We will gladly receive conservative refugees

You are quoting me as having said that, but I didn't say that. What I said was break it up into two or more states. Break it up into Conservative portions and liberal portions. We get some of the electoral votes, and we get two more senators and some congressmen.

Let the left wing portion of the state secede. Once it's bankrupt and out of control, we can conquer it back.

Bye.....but just take the leftist counties with you. We’ll keep the Central Valley and its agriculture and a chunk of coastline.

Getting rid of that lunatic asylum parading as a state is worth any cost. The payback would be immediate and huge. I don’t want anything mucking up this deal. Congress would be “red” forever. The house would lose a net 13 Democrats.

.

California may be split into two parts by another issue at Oroville Dam.

The concrete-lined spillway is failing on an earth-filled dam.

See photo link below.

Could be a problem

you’ll be fighting alone. CA is full of people like those that evaded the draft. and illegals wouldn’t even fight to fix their own country, they ran away instead.

The illegals didn’t run away from Mexico to live in Mexico
Within a few years SoCal-Azatlanistan would be building a wall to keep people in - otherwise who would do the landscaping and housekeeping?

“Californians also now talk about the value of the old Confederate idea of “states’ rights.” “

I think we should support this idea of “states rights”.

Advantage: CA would suck the illegals out of the other 49 like a vacuum cleaner. They would run to mamma.

Leftist are some of the most brutal people in the world. CA secedes the next day Sacramento would pass a conscription act and raise a 5 million man Army. Leftist are mean when they have to be.

I am not saying the CA Army would be good but they would throw bodies at the US Army with abandon.

Unlike those intolerant Yankees back in 1860, I fully support the People’s Democratic Republic of California’s right to secede.
We’ll miss the ports and the revenue (The DRCA is supposedly a net contributor to the Treasury) but their freedom (and our control of the Electoral College) is more important.
However, they will have to take their share of the National Debt with them.

It's a classic.

Too bad Jackson was such a loon. A genius tactician but a lousy administrator.

That argument has potential, but before I simply accepted it, I would want to go through some numbers. If it is as you say, we can save more money by letting them go than making them pay, then that is what we should do.

The draft dodgers would stage protests.

CA wouldn’t allow protesters in war time. When the left gets mean they mow down all opposition. Think of red Russia in 1917.
