When I first heard what happened and that the room filled up with people in black clothes and masks -— I wondered why the police didn’t shut them in right then, arrest them all, and then track them back to the whoever was planning and facilitating the riots. If nothing else, they would have the names and identities of the individuals in this group to compare with others. It would be a start . . .

I don’t know if this is true, but it’s exactly what needs to happen.
FBI also needs to investigate who is paying all these rioters to show up whenever needed to commit violence and destruction on peaceful citizens.

IMO, there are far more than a thousand who will be facing jail time. In the country alone, the likely guilty include the majority of the 0vomit and Klintoon administrations, many congress critters, many on their staffs (e.g., Abedin, various spokesweasels), a huge number of judges, many in various government agencies (DOJ, FBI, CIA, EPA, ... ). The list of those who are complicit is HUGE. Or YUGE.
On the plus side, I think we’re not as far gone as many fear. The problem is that a relatively small number of people can make a lot of noise and make it look bigger than it is. Also, when you are able to incite a mob, you get a lot of people participating who normally would have just been standing on the sidelines. The leftwing community organizers are expert at manipulating mobs and making them appear larger than they really are.
On the minus side, the community organizers (and the organizers of the community organizers) are desperate. They will stop at nothing. They know they are facing serious prison time, possibly death penalty, so nothing is off the table for them. Murder, riots, arson, everything is an option in their desperate scramble to cover up or distract from their crimes and escape prosecution.
To the extent the local law enforcement’s lack of protection endangers the speaker and his audience, the FBI should be involved.
Better yet, state law enforcement authorities.
Anybody intending to attend, should sue for violation of their free speech rights, as should the invited guest speaker.
The left will only stop,, when made to feel the sharp bite of the law.

George, last night before our dinner, my wife did a fast scan of what the local TV stations around Bezerkely were saying.
Every station had crawler or headlines saying Protesters not rioters.
So every bay area tv station had gotten their marching orders to say protesters not rioters.
Some of Clintoon’s and Obama’s thugs were trying to blame Trump and his voters/supporter and us for the riots. Except they never said riots.
From what we saw on tv, the rioters never got on the campus.
The police commanders under orders stood and watch the riots get violent and dangerous on the streets of Bezerkeley.
It was obvious the police were under orders not to respond like at some the BLM riots last year.
I find it hard to believe there are no federal laws, against street violence such as we’ve seen lately.
