os Angeles (AFP) - US President Donald Trump threatened Thursday to withdraw federal funds from UC Berkeley after violent overnight protests against a planned appearance by a controversial editor of conservative news website Breitbart.
Hundreds of students and other protesters chanting "shut him down" smashed windows at the University of California campus, set wooden pallets on fire and threw fireworks and rocks as police in full riot gear responded with tear gas.
The university was placed on lockdown as the sold-out appearance by Milo Yiannopoulos, a conservative firebrand, was canceled Wednesday evening.
"If U.C. Berkeley does not allow free speech and practices violence on innocent people with a different point of view - NO FEDERAL FUNDS?" Trump wrote on Twitter Thursday.

Los Alamos and Livermore Labs in the crosshairs?
Trumps twitter response is right on target. . . Thank GOD he is man enough to say what he says. I still want to know why the police weren’t called on scene to break up that violent mob of rejects the second that fire was ignited.
Not one cent of taxpayer funds should go to this Leftist hell hole. Are people CRAZY, sending their kids there???
Hayakawa, Canadian-born, was 70 when he was elected to the Senate in 1976. At the time he was one of the most popular public figures in the state, a hero to multitudes of Californians outraged by student militants and Vietnam War demonstrators.
Those heroics began Dec. 2, 1968, when Hayakawa, an English professor who had just become acting president of San Francisco State, confronted a howling, jeering mob of striking students.
When he could not make himself heard over a blaring sound truck, Hayakawa leaped to the top of the truck and ripped the wires from the sound system--all recorded on live television.
"It had a lot to do with the media," he said later, "with the fact that television cameras were trained on that sound truck that morning. By noon I was famous. It was fantastic."
If they’re going to call him controversial, why stop at one adjective. If they’re gonna write it, write it right! That’s what matters!

From my last night’s post to Trump’s ear:

“Berkeley gets a lot of federal funding. If they cant protect civil rights on their campus, then perhaps some of that funding should be suspended until they can.”
Exactly. And not just money but how about the fact that these violent protesters attack Americans citizens everywhere they spring ? And blocking us from work and travel it’s disgusting. I can’t wait until his attorney general gets in office and investigates to see if there’s some organization and money behind these rioters.
. . .and let’s stop calling these things protests, or violent protests. . . they are not protests they are anarchistic mobs.
You go read any book on the subject of child discipline and you’ll find every one of them is in favor of bud-nipping
My understanding from twitter is that ‘allegedly’ they were told to stand down.
Trump is lurking and learning.
More WINNING!
No they got it right, at least by what passes for liberal logic. Just like if your skin contains large amounts of melanin, but you hold conservative views, you aren’t really black, the same “logic” holds. A guy who plays hide the sausage with other guys, but is a conservative is not really gay.
It won’t be in Texas because we got rid of La Raza Rick Perry.
NICE JOB!!
DO NOT be surprised if they have people lurking here, possible even posting. I’ve gotten that feeling a bit on some of my posts (but not as direct as yours).
In case you’ve been in a bomb shelter the past 11 days, this is a NEW kind of Republican. Let’s keep flooding them with ideas!
