Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz Stands Up to Trump and Now People Are Calling for Boycotts
The Street ^ | Jan 30, 2017 | Brian Sozzi

Posted on 01/30/2017 8:42:27 PM PST by aquila48

Never one to refrain from speaking out on political issues, Starbucks (SBUX) CEO Howard Schultz took to his soap box on Sunday evening and fired back at the Trump administration following its controversial immigration ban.

"I write to you today with deep concern, a heavy heart and a resolute promise," Schultz said in a new blog post, adding, "We are living in an unprecedented time, one in which we are witness to the conscience of our country, and the promise of the American Dream, being called into question."

Housed in Schultz's missive were a host of interesting nuggets. Schultz said Starbucks is developing plans to hire 10,000 refugees over the next five years across the 75 countries globally where it does business. Starbucks will begin its hiring focus in the U.S. -- sending a clear message to Trump -- via those people who have served with U.S. troops as interpreters and support personnel in various countries where U.S. forces have sought support.

.....

People quickly took to TheStreet's Facebook page to voice their opinion on Schultz's comments, with some calling for a boycott.

Byron Fairchild How about hiring 10,000 Americans at home first!!!😡 Glad I only buy at Big B coffee.

“Never one to refrain from speaking out on political issues, Starbucks (SBUX) CEO Howard Schultz took to his soap box”

And there’s the problem. Schultz’s primary goal as CEO should be to increase profitability and shareholder value by selling as much cheap swill at grossly inflated prices as possible. period.

Attacking the President is the same as attacking the 60,000,000 people who voted for him, which is pretty much the same as saying you don’t want their business.

A woman I worked with went to Venezuela and asked me if I wanted anything. I asked her to bring back some coffee. She did. A jar of Nescafe instant.

Racism is when the black unemployment rate is DOUBLE the national average but you give jobs to foreigners. #boycottstarbucks

Are people really #BoycottStarbucks because they want to hire refugees??? I guess racism is still an alternative fact..

Howard Schultz isn't 'standing up' to Trump. Trump doesn't give a damn what he does or who he is...

Schult can hire anyone he wants ... he can give the finger to American citizens - that's his right.

It's a free country.

Besides, most of us don't like him either . And hell will freeze over before we buy his coffee or grace his door.

You’ve been boycotting FiveBucks so long, it’s now gone up to TenBucks.

Darn straight.

Trump wants jobs for Americans.

Starbucks wants to bypass Americans and hire foreign nationals.

Thanks Star*ucks.

All these rich jerks live in mansions protected by walls and private security. They don’t live anywhere near any “refugees”. Why don’t they take some in and pay for their support with their huge homes and billions? And when are those basketball coaches going to just shut up? I would boycott the NBA, but I never watched it in the first place.

Caribou coffee shops are nice. The ones in our area have great coffee, nice employees, and some are paired with Einstein’s Brothers Bagels. Yum. Too bad I’m on a low carb kick. :-(

This guy needs to focus on selling his expensive not-too-good coffee. Alienating half of the US is not too smart.

There already is a lady in Muslim garb in one of our Starbucks, helping to fulfill the requirement that there must be a woman in a headscarf behind the counter in every commercial establishment I go to.

That’s Caribou Coffee you’re thinking of. The Starbucks CEO is Jewish, so I’m surprised that he and his stores haven’t become a terrorist target yet.

Don’t boycott Starbuck from “Battlestar Galactica”. He was cool. He fought against alien invaders.

Oh wait. Starbucks the coffee joint. Sorry!

(Never touch the stuff. Anything with fusal oils in it sounds bad).
