Charles George (August 23, 1932–November 30, 1952) was a U.S. Army soldier who received the Medal of Honor for his actions in combat on November 30, 1952, during the Korean War. He was fatally wounded when he threw himself on a grenade to protect other soldiers in his company and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

George was born in Cherokee, North Carolina. He entered service at Whittier, North Carolina. At the time of George's death in battle he held the rank of Private First Class in Company C of the 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division. The action for which he received the Medal of Honor was near Songnae-dong, Korea.

The Medal of Honor was awarded on March 18, 1954. The citation read:

Pfc. George, a member of Company C, distinguished himself by conspicuous gallantry and outstanding courage above and beyond the call of duty in action against the enemy on the night of November 30, 1952. He was a member of a raiding party committed to engage the enemy and capture a prisoner for interrogation. Forging up the rugged slope of the key terrain feature, the group was subjected to intense mortar and machine gun fire and suffered several casualties. Throughout the advance, he fought valiantly and, upon reaching the crest of the hill, leaped into the trenches and closed with the enemy in hand-to-hand combat. When friendly troops were ordered to move back upon completion of the assignment, he and 2 comrades remained to cover the withdrawal. While in the process of leaving the trenches a hostile soldier hurled a grenade into their midst. Pfc. George shouted a warning to 1 comrade, pushed the other soldier out of danger, and, with full knowledge of the consequences, unhesitatingly threw himself upon the grenade, absorbing the full blast of the explosion. Although seriously wounded in this display of valor, he refrained from any outcry which would divulge the position of his companions. The 2 soldiers evacuated him to the forward aid station and shortly thereafter he succumbed to his wound. Pfc. George's indomitable courage, consummate devotion to duty, and willing self-sacrifice reflect the highest credit upon himself and uphold the finest traditions of the military service.

Please remember the Canteen is here to honor, support and entertain our troops and their families.  This is a politics-free zone!  Thanks for helping us in our mission!

I hear ya! When will you know something? I hope government over-regulation doesn’t do the project in. Maybe we’ll have less of that now....I HOPE!

Hi radu!

LOL, I watched a Vincent Price classic, "Theater of Blood." It's where he's an actor panned by the critics, so he takes his revenge out on them in a Shakespearean way, great entertainment!

Other than that I visited with the boy and his Mom this afternoon and the doggies and then came home.

How wuz your day?

Hey, there, radu!

It warmed up a bit this afternoon, but cooled back down when it got dark. Soooo glad you didn’t get snow! I noticed it had been raining at Dale Hollow...did y’all get any of that? I know you are in a different part of the state, but hopefully, you did!

Did the rest of the kitties come to live with you today? How is Arabella fitting in?

I got the old one in 2009, but it has been limping for about 18 months. I got a new one 15 months ago and never brought it upstairs. Then 2 weeks ago it DIED! But...I had a new one, thank goodness. It seems to take forever to get all your stuff reloaded and remembered and when you go to make a regular post, realize you haven’t found your code.

I’m getting better at backing up my every day stuff most every day. I love thumb drives. I can stick them in my pocket and take them to work with me.

I think I have a black cloud overhead for me and computers. d:o)

Aaaaaawwwww MAN! I’m jealous!! Vincent Price? Love his movies!

Sounds like you had a good day all around.

I called a friend in FL this afternoon and we chatted for quite a while.
Then I went next door to get two of Hubby’s cousin’s kittens. Been spending a lot of time in the bathroom with them to keep them calm. They seem settled now with their toys and food.

I have a good feeling about them having negative test results tomorrow and will bring the other kitten and their momma here after the trip to the vet. Just can’t take all four at once since it’s a time-consuming visit.

Well at least you got to enjoy a little warmth today. It never got out if the 30s here. There was a little snow sitting when I got up but it didn’t last long.

They had a little snow at Dale Hollow late this afternoon. I saw it and thought, “Better them than us!” LOL! It didn’t do much, though, and that was good. It would have been nice to get a little something wet here since we’re still pretty dry. A lot to make up for after such a dry year last year.

Arabella and her brother are here. They’re quarantined in the bathroom for the night. They were a bit spooked at first because this is the first time they’ve been inside a house but they’ve relaxed quite a bit throughout the evening. They have toys to play with and love it. :-)

As promised last night, I have pix of the two newbies. Not the best but they'll do for now.

This is Arabelle ......

And this is her brother. They named him Jody but that doesn't work. I'll come up with something that suits him better eventually.
