The US government will not automatically allow green card holders who traveled to countries placed under a temporary travel ban back into the United States, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN.
Instead, those travelers will have to apply for a waiver to the executive order that instituted the ban, the sources said. When they land, they will be taken into a secondary screening process to determine their eligibility. The countries targeted by Trump's executive order include the Muslim-majority nations of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Sudan and Yemen.

Trump is governing with intent. He has rejected Obama’s Marxist policy of one world/no borders. Borders will be made secure and immigration laws enforced. Elections have consequences. The Left will howl.
As I recall, I brought my Czech wife home to America in 1976. I don’t directly require her getting a “Resident Alien” green card here until some time after we came back with our son.
She got a visa and permission to travel and enter, but that card wasn’t part of the deal because she did not ‘reside’ in the US yet.
My personal view is that either these whiners are complaining about the “actual” green cards that equated with actual residency and visa that allow entry to obtain them.
Intentional false equivocation or not, I think there is a drastic difference myself.
Unless someone has some order or plan to go back and review all of the Green Cards from Iran, Iraq, Syria, etc....which could take a year or two with current manpower....I don’t see where this will go.
If the Green Card controllers did a crappy job, then I see no choice. But someone ought own up to this before we waste a ton of time on this.
I personally think they should have started with student visas, and cleared the deck with just that one crowd before starting on the remainders.
Here’s the point — Already existing Green Card holders must be given an exception to this rule.
Green card holders are not citizens depending on the card and how it was obtained, that honor comes three or five years later.
But theyre not bog-standard visa-holders either. Unlike, say, H1B-carriers, permanent residents are expected to LIVE in America by default, and are in fact penalized if they dont.
By law and by expectation, this country is their home; their base; the ground in which their roots are planted. Because of this, permanent residents are able to purchase, own, and carry firearms; they are required to register with the selective service; and they are treated for tax and welfare purposes as are U.S. citizens.
They cant vote or serve on a jury, but, other than, they effectively enjoy all the liberties that natural born Americans enjoy. When they re-enter the country, the agent says Welcome Home, which is a big change from their visa days. They are not Americans, and they mustnt pretend to be. But they are as close as one can get without being one.
I bring it up because I cant work out how applying Trumps rule to the holders of green cards makes any logical sense.
NOTE: these are people who have already gone through the vetting process; people who have been granted permanent residency; people who have made their lives here on the understanding that to fail to do so will incur penalties. What possible sense can it make to temporarily restrict their travel?
That is correct. They’re going get a throrough vetting first.
Slow and painful, with at least a moderate level of stress and uncertainty, would be much more appropriate. These are not US citizens, and keeping potential enemies out of our country is worth a little inconvenience for aliens. They can spend the extra time memorizing the Constitution and the definition of the word "assimilation".
When they re-enter the country, the agent says Welcome Home,

No that doesn’t happen they don’t come in by the same door as American citizens
They are processed with all the rest of the foreign visitors...
They are not American citizens...
You are correct. You have to realize that Trump is a businessman. When negotiating in business ( and Trump considers political action a negotiation), you commonly overstate your demands and position, knowing full well that when you “concede” to your opponent, you in the end achieve most of what you wanted. Trump will be outlandish and will appear to “retreat” on occasion and the Media will “celebrate”. In the end policy and outcome will change largely the way he intended.
Normally, a green card holder can re-enter the US for up to a year. For more than one year, they need a re-entry permit issued before they leave. After two years, they need a re-entry visa.
If the byline says “CNN” and the headline or first sentence includes the word “may”, the entire report is garbage.
They can write “Due to (insert villain - Trump, Bush, GOP), the Sun may rise in the West by 2030.”
The article will then 1) blame and disparage the villain, 2) cite a deranged leftist not properly labelled a deranged leftist to accuse villain of damaging the economy or the planet or multicultural values or some other catastrophe, 3) set a future date for this catastrophe so you’ll forget all about this prediction by the time the event is due.
And when a conservative demands proof of the accusation, the CNN editor/reporter will point back to the word “may” meaning “may or may not”.
See how this works? I’ve described exactly how fake news is produced.
Anyone have a link to the order itself on whitehouse.gov?
I haven’t been able to find it and have only found the text of the order on “news” websites.
I see all other exec orders up there, including stuff from Saturday.
As I understand it, this one came out on Friday.
?
The Obama Admin has been handing out Green Cards to people for eight years who may be less than politically savory ... Eight years is a long time to be able to plant sleeper jihadis and terrorists ... So they must be vetted same as the more recent ‘refugees’ who have been brought in wholesale...
Okay a Green Card Holder from Greece or Thailand may not be a risk but what about those from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, etc.?
Some of those long-time green card holders could be part of sleeper cells. They need to be re-vetted.
I can for at least two reasons.
1. These are mostly Obama's green card holders. Some no doubt chosen for their ability to damage the US.
2. If they had stayed in the US, there would not be any problem at all. They have traveled outside the US do do who knows what. They should be vetted again before we let them back in.
The hoopla over a court order is just plain bogus. The EO had provision for those in transit when the order was issued. All those in transit have now landed. From this moment forward, they need to be certain they can get off the airplane before they get on it over there. Not that big a deal.
NOTE: these are people who have already gone through the vetting process; people who have been granted permanent residency; people who have made their lives here on the understanding that to fail to do so will incur penalties. What possible sense can it make to temporarily restrict their travel?
First off, the vetting process is seriously flawed. Haven't we discovered after the mass murders that have occurred within our borders, that the person has traveled back to their homeland and received training and or became radicalized?
It's really very simple: You applied for a green card (permanent residence status) but you left the country. Trump wants to take a look at why they left and what they did while they were gone. These are logical questions to ask. And if those questions are hard to answer, chances are we've prevented the next tragedy.
What is so difficult to understand about that?
Just saw some college students interviewed on Fox news where they expressed that the US should not have a wall at the southern border and there should be no restrictions on who comes into this country....but they want a “SAFE SPACE” for words spoken by a person they disagree with.
We wouldn’t have those Middle Easterners her at all but for Saudi influence. Saudis want the crazies far away from their borders, and pay well to make it so. Only Europe and America are willing to take them.
