The former head of President Donald Trumps transition team at the Environmental Protection Agency said Thursday he expects the new administration to seek significant budget and staff cuts.
Myron Ebell said in an interview with The Associated Press that Trump is likely to seek significant reductions to the agencys workforce currently about 15,000 employees nationwide. Ebell, who left the transition team last week, declined to discuss specific numbers of EPA staff that could be targeted for pink slips.
Asked what he would personally like to see, however, Ebell said slashing the agencys size by about half would be a good start.

Good start is right. I’ve always thought the EPA should only employ tree-planters and puddle cleaners, etc. So if they are willing to grab a shovel and plant seeds, fine, they can stay. Or if they are willing to buy a LifeStraw and go clean mud puddles out in the countryside somewhere, fine, they can stay. Otherwise, send ‘em packin’!
The EPA people know exactly what crimes they are guilty of, and they even mock the humans of this country by posting the text of those statutes on the internet, except they are blaming the incoming administration for the crimes they themselves have been committing for 40 years.
Wasn’t the EPA one of the agencies collecting guns and ammo? As a matter of fact, do any of you remember the articles about the Federal agencies becoming armed under Bozo’s term? What will POTUS do with these...the guns, etc?
The trouble with ad-hoc agencies like the EPA is that they never actually solve the problem that they were created to deal with. Instead, they constantly move the goalposts further and further away, so they can never agree to drop back into a maintenance mode. There is always “more progress” to be made.
The trouble is that the costs, direct and indirect, grow exponentially larger the closer they get to the perfect environmental utopia that they claim to seek.
They will claim to need ever increasing funding and personnel levels, and to justify those levels, they have to create a panic atmosphere by trotting out dire predictions of doom and mass deaths if the last fraction of a percent of any given pollutant isn’t purged from the air or water. For the EPA, the “climate change” nonsense is nothing short of a bonanza.
You will never hear these people admit that the job they have done is good enough, that any given problem is solved, and that the bureaucratic empires that they have created can be scaled back, not even just a tiny bit.
No, government agencies always want more, and every year they go trotting off to Congress to beg for their next years budget. And they always inflate their requests to compensate for the inevitable trimming, and they also know that it is never acceptable to spend less than what they are allocated because that will make it harder to justify future increases.
The drones at the EPA hive will be busy in coming days preparing their latest round of death predictions, the deaths they will blame directly on President Trump.
Just amazing how an outfit created by exec order got to be so huge and powerful.
The EPA has got to be something our Founding Fathers would never have wanted for us.
Tampa had Jim Fair Who had run for several offices before winning supervisor of elections.
He took office and fired the entire staff.
Locked the doors and took off for vacation.
6 months later and 2 elections missed authorities finally figured out that Fair just blew off the elections.
They fired him and had a special election to replace him.
NO one noticed, just as if Trump fired every slug at EPA and shuttered the doors, no one would notice.
Google Tampa/Jim Fair and see for amusement.
Eliminate the EPA entirely. For real pollution problems not within State control roll those functions into the Department of the Interior. Eliminate redundant agencies.
“Just amazing how an outfit created by exec order got to be so huge and powerful.”
I think it was Ronald Reagan that stated “the closest thing to eternal life on earth ... is a government program.”
Give them each a broom and a mop and tell them to clean the earth. Or, maybe just the sites where liberals hold protests.
By spending every minute of every day effectively working for the people of this country, he highlights just how lazy and anti-American the previous administration was. The people’s eyes are open.
And not a full week into his Presidency....my face hurts.
there is a need to protect the public from “real” issues..
i worked years ago with the epa, not for the epa, and we would sample areas like water treatment, nuclear power plants..It is wise to have a “protection force” based on reality, but get rid of the political bs..trust me, I have worked at nuke labs, nerve gas bunkers etc..we need a monitoring realistic workforce to some degree.
Go Trump!!
"Officially"
I long for the day when the vast majority of people realize that "official" is not a synonym for "accurate", but rather "official" is a synonym for "more government bullshit".
We are winning so much, I’m getting tired of winning!
Trump warned us this would happen!
get rid of the EPA swat teams (as well as all the other swat teams alphabet agencies currently have)
Pretty much everything the EPA has done since the beginning of the Clinton administration, every new rule and restriction, has been political in nature.
WTH are you thinking? The entire EPA should be in a leased, rundown Maryland strip mall with three employees to cover a 24 hour shift, a phone, and an Apple Mac IIc computer.
My teeth are drying out from grinning so much.
Excellent point. Someone needs to do an in depth research to where all these guns and ammo are. Are they here in the states or did the whole pile get shipped to Mexico or Iran? Who is storing them at what cost? Why can’t they be sold now?
The EPA has ten regional offices stocked with what is essentially SWAT team equipment. They do from time to time make SWAT raids.
