Part human, part pig embryos have been successfully created by scientists for the first time.
The embryos, that were grown inside a sow, contained a 'low' amount of human tissue.
But it is hoped one day this technique will allow whole organs in the pig to be grown of human cells, to tackle the increasing shortage of organs for transplants. The chimera, or human-animal hybrid, was created by injecting human stem cells into pig embryos and then implanting them in a sow.
The human stem cells grew and formed part of the tissue of the pig embryos, although they did not become piglets as they were removed at 28 days.
The amount of human tissue that grew in the pig embryos was low, researchers said.

Abomination is the 10 cent word of the day on this thread :)
This kind of thing might lead to children who need organs or will die, getting them. Can’t have that :)
Its OK to get an organ transplant from a pig but afterward you will prefer eating off the floor.
our genes are what make us human. Tamper with those and what it means to be human could be lost. Do you trust this technology with ISIS? China? Iran, etc.? Nuclear power was going to save us. Clean energy. We have nukes and 3-headed Japanese fish. Nuclear weapons are NOTHING compared to gene modification.
Great post but I wouldn’t expect much conversion :)
A Bible is a dangerous thing in the wrong hands.
Let us assume you are correct:
Are our troops best served by facing such superhuman troops in the future, while themselves UNenhanced..?
Maybe they’d win on shear superior DIGNITY...?
I have my doubts.
Would such troops SUFFER via enhancement..?
sheer, whoops.
lol!
If we abstain from such genetic research, you are therefore saying ISIS, the PRC, etc. would be so inspired that they, too, would abstain from that research..?
The opposite is true.
And I KNOW that China’s own research proceeds totally independent of our own, our laws has impeded us that much already.
Most US labs can do little w/o Chinese grad students, or at least that is the feeling now, true or not.
Let’s just extend that thought into the future:
Are you comfortable with the thought of a physically enhanced class of warrior humans, at all? Are you so certain that such a class of humans wouldn’t attempt to take over a given society that creates them?
As you point out, it may be an inevitability by now, since the genie’s out of the bottle. Others have them therefore we must have them. However, we’ll no longer all be simply human. There will be human, and there will be other. And, that other will continue to change at an increasingly rapid pace.
I’m asking you to think forward a bit, past the benefits that you’re working so diligently to tout, to see the effects upon society that will be the price that’s paid. It seems difficult for you, but please try.
On a somewhat different note that might help you envision unintended future consequences: remember the Patriot Act? Sounded good in the aftermath of 9/11 didn’t it? So did DHS. How do you feel about them now, since they’ve been extended way past their original intent as always occurs?
Seems as if I've read that somewhere before, maybe a history book.
Doctor Mengele tried to turn kids’ eyes from brown to green. He used caustic chemicals and blinded them, but it actually worked. Of course, their genes weren’t altered in the process but this technology, and Crispir would have made Hitler drool. Worse people than Hitler have yet to be born, and they will do freakish, freakish things. Yes, some things should be abstained from. Let the Chinese leap ahead of us in chimera technology. Let them be damned. And again, you don’t need a Bible to be worried about this stuff. Christians understand something better than most- human beings are bent towards evil. There is very little good in us. The probability for mischief with this tech is 100%
It was an otherwise good adventure movie. Don’t know why they had to base it on that weird incident, though. Probably some northeast liberal film maker attempting to depict southerners in a stereotypical bad light.
Indeed.
Must cancers except brain cancer were cured in the 50s.
We all can’t live too long though, it wouldn’t be good for our masters.
