White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer angrily accused the media Saturday of false reporting on the inauguration as part of what he called a shameful attempt to minimize enthusiasm for President Trump, beginning his tenure as the administrations top spokesman on a combative note.
Spicer summoned the press to the briefing room at the end of Trumps first full day in office to specifically condemn two pieces of reporting a reporters erroneous claim, since retracted, that an MLK bust was removed from the Oval Office; and photos appearing to show light crowds at Fridays inauguration.
Spicer called the former claim, made on Twitter, irresponsible and reckless.

Spicer is a perfect fit - a un-nuanced Press Secretary for a straight talking President....
Nothing wrong with Gentleman’s Warehouse suits for the people’s press secretary.
It’s only the Washington Elite who are dressed to the nines. The Washington press corp should transform to a people’s press corps. And substance over style.
Your average people’s journalist and blogger is casual and not too concerned about their appearance. Let it be so.
I think a weekly “correct the record” briefing would go over big. The day to day could go on as is where warranted, but I think if the media is goi g to be held accountable, this is a good idea.
When they are caught in a proven lie...give then a “time out.” Pull the press credentials for the media outlet. First offense 30 days, second, 90 days, third...banned forever. They act like children and will keep doing it as long as there is no downside. MAKE IT HURT when they lie.
Also, the higher than usual number of protesters would have taken up a lot of the hotel rooms in the area. If you come from far away, you need a place to stay, and there would have been fewer rooms available for actual attendees.
Awesome. I love that adults are now in charge.
Yes, before Trump (Schmucky, etc) the mall was not filled, as I took mental note that I saw lots of white. When Trump joined the ceremony, the white space was gone when they panned the mall.
Give no quarter.
Thanks. I think that outrage over stupid media tricks
will get old and tired over time. I’d like to see the
Trump Administration embrace the media foolishness and
turn it around on them. And, I don’t even think that
the Trump Admin has to always approach it from an angry
angle. They could hire writers like Greg Gutfeld to
apply some sarcasm and condescension to the mix,
These days the job of a WH reporter is to take down
Trump, at least in their eyes it is. Might as well
turn these biased asshats around and put them to work
for the good guys. What I am describing is sort
of a weekly administration version of the Daily
Show if it is taken to the extreme. Of course
it surely doesn’t have to be taken that far.
BS, this lying scum should be called on every lie. You can’t believe it will approach any subject seriously not anti-Trump can you?
Letting them get away little lies allows them to get away with big ones. They have to be fought over every yard and put on the defensive by peremptive strikes.
Maybe they will get tired of being made to look like biased fools. It is the drip, drip, drip of little lies which enures the public to the big ones.
Glad to see you bring up the MLK bust lie. This is exactly the kind of “little” thing that has enormous impact among certain voters. There is no doubt in my mind that the Liar thought “how can I further alienate Trump and Blacks” before he concocted this lie. Even after it has been confronted the fetid stench of the Lying Liberal still pollutes the air.
That was a doozie! PRESIDENT Trump is getting off to a good start!
I recall noticing several times during the inauguration that the crowds were packed all the way back to the Washington Monument! However, the next day, the news media was posting photos trying to show that the crowd was extremely sparse, with the empty reflecting pools had only a few people in the first three pools, claimed to have been taken just 15 minutes before Trump taking the oath of office. it was an obvious lie. Even my girlfriend noted the obvious disparity from what her own eyes had seen the day before!
I told her it was a set up for exaggerating the next day’s numbers of demonstrators and sure enough, the claims were that there were so many women they couldn’t even march. . . but the photos they showed had many empty places in the streets and empty places on the grass and in the reflecting pools, and no one in the areas in front of the Capitol building at all! The numbers they were claiming was only 193,000 for the Inauguration but three to four times that for the Women’s March on Washington.
My estimate was that there was easily TRIPLE the number of the Women’s March that were there for the Inauguration! I was really frustrated that I could not post my observation of this on Saturday due to FR being down!
Re-read my posts on this matter and tell me where I
advocated for no response. You and I may love a daily
knock down, drag out but the masses will get weary.
Meanwhile, the MSM will happily take Spicer off the
main message. That is what I would do if I was an
anti Trump MSM toadie. You advocate a constant tit-for-tat.
All that will do is put Trump on 24/7 defense. I say
they should put the reporters on defense.
Frankly, some of this will go away on it’s own once
Trump gains some economic victories.
A few of us are like me in regard to attending the ceremonies-—I am a supporter of my President Trump but am a 94 yr old WW2 vet with mobility problems-——could not do the walking or standing needed to attend-—at least my God allowed me to see the possible saving of the Nation I fought for so long ago—
The “masses” do not watch press conferences so weariness will not be an issue.
The media animosity will never end and any thought of that should be disabused. As Rush is saying today we are in a political war and we will not concede an inch to the media lies.
This combative attitude cements the bond between Trump and his supporters. We are sick of not fighting back, those days or over.
No use discussing the matter with you. You continue to
falsely imply this idea that I do not favor pushback.
Use the final exchange to say the same tired thing.
I insist.
