“I believe very strongly that countries like the United States could and should move to a digital currency,” he said, “so that you would have the ability to trace this kind of corruption. There are important issues of privacy, cyber-security, but it would certainly have big advantages.”

I live in an area frequently hit by severe storms and flooding. We often go extended periods with no electricity. With cash, it’s not a severe problem - we can still buy and sell, getting by nicely until things are restored. Cashless, we would be in a world of hurt. Anyone who thinks a cashless system would be fine is quite naive and sheltered.
Ah yes - the sad, sorry, and tired old excuse of banning currency to prevent “CORRUPTION”.

What happens during natural disasters such as hurricanes when electricity can be down for a couple of weeks or more? You can’t use digital when you don’t have electrical. After such emergencies cash is essential.

It’s not just the traditional contraband market.
The prostitution market, for example, is huge with lots of freelancers and free agents. They mostly deal in cash. Any forced electronic record of their transactions will freeze out much of their business.
