CHARLESTOWN, Mass. (Jan. 14, 2008) The first major snowfall of the New Year blankets the USS Constitution. Despite the weather "Old Ironsides" remained open for free public tours. At 210 years-old, USS Constitution is the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world, manned by 67 active-duty United States Sailors and visited by nearly half a million visitors annually. Conor,I know you're an old Navy Corpseman (sorry.couldn't help myself) but this jpg makes me wonder if you've ever seen Old Ironsides.I've lived my entire (long) life (except Army time) within a 15 miles radius of Charlestown and I only just visited it for the first time last year.Very impressive...probably even more so to a sailor!
If by chance you haven't set aside a couple of hours next time you're in Boston to see it.It's easy to get to via public transit.There's a regular commuter ferry that takes you within a 5 minute walk of it.
