A growing group of Democratic lawmakers will boycott President-elect Donald Trumps inauguration Friday as a protest of Trumps worldview and his criticism of civil rights icon John Lewis, congressman of Georgia
There are now more than 40 House Democrats 42, at last count who have declared that they will not attend the inauguration on Capitol Hill this week. The number rose sharply after Trump tweeted Saturday that Lewis is all talk, talk, talk and should finally focus on the burning and crime infested inner-cities.
Lewis, who sees Trumps Nov. 8 win as illegitimate because of Russias alleged interference in the election, is best known for leading civil rights protests in the 1960s, including the 1965 march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Ala., in which state troopers brutally attacked the crowd. Lewis will not attend the inauguration, he told NBC News in an interview for Sundays Meet the Press.
Heres a list of other lawmakers who will not attend, starting alphabetically with Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.), whose spokesman confirmed her decision in an email.

My point isn’t about necessarily the Oath etc.
It is about the dangerous optics this creates to the world and the country. This is not a civil rights moment or type of event for these lawmakers, it is their duty to respect the office and the will of the people.
This article, like so much other coverage of the idiot John Lewis, tries to paint him as the victim.
Let us not forget that he used fake stories as an excuse to gratuitously attack Trump, and that Trump defended himself.
I’m sure that if someone wrote a fake story that Lewis was burying toxic wastes in the projects, he would not be at all happy to be criticized for poisoning the projects. It is not okay to treat people as if fiction invented about them is true.
I hope that these congresscritters who are boycotting the inauguration will also boycott sessions of Congress. It would facilitate getting things done, like shoveling out the mountain of regulations that are burdening everyone.
If it wasn’t for the chance to get in front of a national camera, the popular Democrats would probably all skip the event.
Just pissy little children all.
I’m a Dem. If there’s a seat going begging, I’d be honored and delighted to take it!
I think there should be more threads about this. /s
They will not be missed.
In those “safe” districts, they can be defeated only by their own deaths.

How many of these same Democrats skipped Bush’s inauguration?
Proof positive that the RAT Party is all about power and rule. Nothing about America and the Constitution.
Under RAT Rule, we are subjects, not citizens.
Oh my, and I bet if it was Hillary’s inauguration instead, you can very well imagine the reaction a Repub lawmaker would get if they refused to attend such an event.

Well, lets get them all excited and beating their war drums.
Ann Coulter hit the nail right on the head when she said liberals always take someone who was a victim - in this case Lewis being arrested during the civil rights marches - and then giving this person carte blanche to say anything he or she wants and if you disagree you are therefore racist, sexist, a homophobe, or the 10 billion other tags they have. They did the same thing with Sharia supremacist Khizer Khan whose son served and died in Iraq. He bashed Trump for 10 minutes at the DNC with the biggest load of BS - shaking the constitution at the camera as if the USA is required to take in Muslims from foreign countries - and because Trump merely asked why Khans wife didn't talk he therefore "insulted all vets and Muslims". They do this crap all all all all all the time.
Lewis skipped Bush inaugural too, said he was not president
But this is also part of a pattern. Lewis and Lee, along with some other Democratic lawmakers at the time, also boycotted to make a point when President George W. Bush was inaugurated in 2001. The Washington Post reported at the time that Lewis “thought it would be hypocritical to attend Bush’s swearing-in because he doesn’t believe Bush is the true elected president.”
Enemies within. The forefathers knew of them way back.
It will be nice to see an inauguration that “looks like America”; good riddance to them.
42 Representatives who will not represent their constituency at the inauguration of the 45th President of the United States ?...sad
There is no reconciliation needed, we don’t need them.
They are diminishing themselves.
