New York, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Wyoming, Connecticut, Vermont, Illinois, and West Virginia all experienced shrinking populations in 2015-2016 according to figures recently released by the United States Census Bureau. This was in part due to internal migration by people seeking new employment opportunities, warmer weather or retirement in other states.
Despite some states benefitting from migration and higher birth rates (Utah was the fastest growing state with a 2 percent gain), the overall growth rate of the United States population reached its lowest point since the Depression era. The annual growth rate of below 0.7 per cent was the lowest since 1936-37, despite immigration levels of around one million annually propping up 45 percent of that growth.

Another consequence of Obama's asinine version of socialism and racial politics.
Or they died from ObamaCare.................
Yes indeed. Indeed it was.
NYS lost 2 House seats after the 2010 census. WTG, ‘Rats and RINOs!
Student Loans!!! People think it costs money to have a family and raise kids! And before that it costs money to even date.
I’m commenting about this -> “the overall growth rate of the United States population reached its lowest point since the Depression era. The annual growth rate of below 0.7 per cent was the lowest since 1936-37, despite immigration levels of around one million annually propping up 45 percent of that growth.”
Pennsylvania is so mired in the corruption that goes with a statist mentality, along with ever-increasing taxes, that it will continue to shrink. It s an economic basket case waiting to happen.
Not sure why Mississippi surprises you, since they have the worst economy of all 50 states. They are leaving for Alabama, Louisiana and other states that have more jobs available.
Dear Lord, Vermont is STILL shrinking?
So true. We retired to Florida where it is so less expensive to live. It feels like a more free state here. No state or local income taxes, no auto or emission inspections, lower electricity rates.
My guess is some Louisianans (sp?) are returning home, finally.
What’s really surprising to me is Wyoming. Boom economy recently... has it gone flat with the coal bust?
It’s also a real problem if the medical costs for a baby delivery significantly outweigh the costs of getting a free abortion. Totally backwards system.
This isn’t aimed you, fwdude. It is aimed the editor of this fish wrap.
These eight US states have shrunk in 2016
Is this, a head line written by a fourth grade dropout?
These states lost population and didn’t shrink in size.
This is typical of fish wrap headlining from today’s so called Journalists.
>>Its also a real problem if the medical costs for a baby delivery significantly outweigh the costs of getting a free abortion. Totally backwards system.<<
If you think that’s backwards think about the bennies a single mom gets vs. a married woman.
I think it may be because of the collapse of oil prices in early 2016 (maybe late 15?). The shale drillers shut a lot of their wells.
Actually, I think it’s appropriate to talk of “growth,” and conversely “shrinkage” as pertaining to a population. After all, Texas is considered “large” not because of its land mass, but because of its population, although land mass often coincides with population size.
Mercatornet isn’t “fish wrap,” it is largely a conservative website (Catholic in flavor and management) which repudiates the message of the true fish wrap leftist rags. Give is a read over a few weeks and I think you’ll agree. Its U.S. counterpart is Public Discourse, which often publishes the same articles.
is it good for the US to have increase of people every year?
just like is it good for the stock market to continually go up?
I think people are so bought into bogus thinking like growth is always good.
Growth at what cost? Shrubs, trees etc everything needs pruning, revamping at times.
Mississippi is Haley Barour And family
