A Senate Republican is blasting President-elect Donald Trump's criticism of Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), praising the lawmaker for his leadership in the civil rights movement in the 1960s.

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) on Saturday seized on Trump's characterization of Lewis as "All talk, talk, talk - no action," pointing out that his "talk" made a significant contribution in the civil rights movement.

"John Lewis and his 'talk' have changed the world," Sasse tweeted.

Rep. John Lewis is - and has been - a racist hater for years.

In 1995, when Newt and the GOP held the majority for the first time in 40 years, Lewis took to the House floor and shouted:

“Dey comin’ fo da chillin! Dey comin’ fo da chillin!”*

It was a cynical attempt to fear-monger, with absolutely no justification, House Republicans’ effort to get the deficit-riddled budget under control.

Lewis is a nasty, brainless empty suit; a true kindred spirit of Obama, losers and demagogues both.

Moreover, Lewis is verbalizing the entire media, Obama regime, and DNC strategy behind this false "Russian hacking" charge: that somehow Trump's Presidency is "illegitimate" because they say it is.

Obviously Trump was not referring to the Civil Rights era 50 yrs ago, he specifically referenced Lewis in Congress (past 30 yrs, 1987-on) and the condition of people in his Congressional District.

Still, I think this particular counter-punch is unwinnable (due to the Civil Rights background for Lewis) so I wish Trump had focused upon rejection of the specific comments Lewis made against Trump, rather than trying to take down Lewis more generally. This one is no-win, imho.
