I assumed there was more to this story.
Apparently, the Maj. Gen. WAS offered the opportunity to remain through election day ceremonies, but the Maj. Gen. turned it down and then complained to the press that he was forced out at 12:01 p.m. ET.
But the Maj. Gen. is leaving because the Maj. Gen. submitted a letter of resignation, not because he got fired.

This seems to be more blatant media dishonesty — only presenting enough ‘facts’ to support the narrative, but ignoring ‘facts’ that are counter to the narrative.
In this case, it seems that Maj. Gen. Schwartz is complicit in the ruse.

Someone want to explain how “5,000 unarmed troops dispatched from across the country to help.” inaugural security? This guy is in charge of a bunch of UNARMED traffic cops and misc ash and trash. The real security is the Old Guard an active duty regiment tasked with securing the capital.

If I understand the Presidential Turnover Protocol correctly, all Presidential Appointments end when the new President takes office.

I was relieved last night when I heard about the WaPo re-write, because I could have sworn that the story time-stamped 5:23 was very different from the one I first read, and I was questioning not so much my sanity as my reading comprehension.
