Gun silencers are nothing to fear

In "The Godfather," a Mafioso prepping young Michael Corleone to assassinate some rivals gives him a pistol for the job. After firing a bullet into the cellar wall, Michael complains, "Ow! My ears!" His friend says, "Yeah, I left it noisy. That way, it scares any pain-in-the-ass innocent bystanders away."

The Corleones would have had little interest in a bill that would allow gun owners to obtain silencers without the federal permits required since 1934. Some people like the deafening boom of a gunshot. Most shooters don't, and the National Rifle Association is pressing for enactment of the proposed Hearing Protection Act, which also has the endorsement of Donald Trump Jr., an avid trophy hunter.

My FIL hunts duck with a 10 gauge. It is subsonic and the loudest gun I’ve ever heard. I can hear him at pond almost a mile from my house shooting duck.

Your FIL's duck loads will exit the muzzle supersonic but will be subsonic by the time they get to the ducks.

They generally don’t work with revolvers due to the cylinder/barrel gap...

"... is the racking of the slides on the shotguns as they close in..."

Yep! That has been absurd since forever...Think it is done to trigger some kind of emotion in the viewing audience...

If you have to fill out Fed paper work to purchase a suppressor, it is still not freedom. What happens if I build my own suppressor? ... Have to fill out an approval form? Nope, not good enough.

Supressors were included in the Firearms Control Act of 1934 to stop game poaching.

Perhaps, but I'd guess that bought and paid for politicians delegitimized them to make them out of reach of the gangsters who were bribing the politicians to start with. A Mexican stand off...

PS They are not all that hard to fabricate. The most difficult part is keeping the internals aligned with the rifled barrel to prevent the expended bullet from striking the baffles.

--FDR's Atty General, Homer Cummings, was under pressure to "do something" about the "crime wave" "sweeping the country" --(Bonnie and Clyde, John Dillinger, et al.,) and fixed on "guns" as the problem---

--pistols and revolvers were to be included in the mix of highly taxed weapons but the small and not particularly powerful NRA got them removed from the National Firearms Act--

--Cummings himself admitted that "militia" weapons couldn't be forbidden under the Second Amendment but proposed that they could be taxed out of existence---

I’m hopeful legalizing them will drive costs down. Can’t happen soon enough!

Several YouTube videos show you how to make your own. Only if they become legal of course.

You can make a .22 pretty quiet with a silencer.

If you use subsonic ammo it helps too.

It’s done because the director thinks it should be there. The director thinks it should be there because it’s in all the other movies.

Hollywood would be much better if it got rid of 90% of the sound effects crews. The ones who use the crackling paper sound effects every time someone turns a page or picks up a bag make me want to throw things.

Yep!

Another fake effect is the sound of LEOs "sneaking" in hallways or rooms to the sound of an elephant in leather-soled shoes or boots...
