Commanding general of D.C. National Guard to be removed from post (at 12:01 pm Jan 20th)
WaPo ^ | Peter Hermann

Posted on 01/13/2017 9:30:14 AM PST by RoosterRedux

The head of the D.C. National Guard, Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz, said Friday that he has been ordered removed from his command effective Jan. 20, 12:01 p.m., just as Donald Trump is sworn in as president.

Schwartz’s forced departure will come in the midst of the presidential inauguration that he has spent months helping plan alongside D.C. police, the U.S. Secret Service and other top District officials. He will turn over command to an interim as power transfers from one president to the next, and just before the inaugural parade marches down Pennsylvania Avenue.

“The timing is extremely unusual,” Schwartz said in an interview Friday morning, confirming a memo announcing his ouster that was obtained by The Washington Post. During the inauguration, Schwartz would command not only the members of the D.C. guard but also an additional 5,000 troops sent in from across the country to help. He also would oversee military air support protecting the nation’s capital during the inauguration.

“My troops will be on the street,” Schwartz, 65, said. “I’ll see them off but I won’t be able to welcome them back to the armory.” He said that he would “never plan to leave a mission in the middle of a battle.”

Schwartz said he would oversee duties in a command center and then depart at 12:01 p.m., retiring from the Army.

“Peaceful transition” = he is signalling that he will order his men to stand down and “show restraint” when the riots start, and not protect Trump supporters from being assaulted.

Exactly, that is what I believe as well.

If Trump trusted him Trump could have ask his service be extended until after the ceremony. I suspect whoever will be taking his place will be brought up to speed on security arrangements this week, if they haven’t already.

if the anarchist punks and BLM’ers start to riot , the NG should do what Gov Ronald Reagan ordered them to do in Berkeley 1969 : FIX BAYONETS

He's an Obama appointee.

No! He was given his command in June of '08. That would have been W.

As far as I’ve seen no replacement has been announced but standing The Military District of Washington Command has full understanding of the Inaugural planning and deployment. They are the real force behind the local NG, selection of the NG command and planning and intel. Money bet is that the replacement has been read in already for seamless transition. Army is good at that.

see: https://www.army.mil/institution/organization/unitsandcommands/commandstructure/mdw

for details about the MDW and a their link to the Inaugural Event.

according to the article, it is customary for appointees to submit their resignations at the end of the presidential terms, to allow the incoming administration to start with a clean slate. Schwartz began serving under Bush, and Obama has declined his resignation twice. The Trump transition team made the decision to accept Schwartz’s resignation when he submitted it this time.

The man is undoubtedly sharp as a tack.

Wharton apparently doesn't hand out 'participation diplomas'.   ;-)

Here’s another take on this:

Did the writer seek to learn the REASON for this ??

It is odd that they didn’t state they tried, but were rebuffed to learn the reason, or explanation.

This is not accurate. If it’s a stupid idea to fire the commander during his deployment, then it’s Trump’s stupid idea. (Or else it’s not a stupid idea at all and has been well planned in advance by military professionals.)

The chief has said he offered his resignation to Trump effective immediately upon becoming president, and Trump accepted it, effective immediately. Trump has also chosen the chief’s replacement, who has not yet been publicly named but who is prepared to take command at the appointed time.

However much he might like it, Obama has no power to do anything after 12 pm on January 20th. If he’s allowed to depart the inauguration ceremony on Marine One (as Bush did after Obama was inaugurated) then it is due only to Trump’s courteous permission. Without that, he can walk.

..what Gov Ronald Reagan ordered them to do in Berkeley 1969 : FIX BAYONETS

What a positively beautiful sight that would be !

We'd likely smell the self-soiled marxist reaction up here in PA

LOL. Thanks for the memory. Reagan’s handling of the Berkley situation was when I decided I wanted him for President. It took a few years, before he got there, but I knew he’d be a good President because of his record as Gov. of California.

Such a shame that California has been overrun with so many left wing nuts. I hope that Northern California is able to split and become the 51st. state.

Supposedly, 2,000,000 Bikers for Trump will be there.

Rolling Thunder, Patriot Guard Riders etc., will be there under the Bikers for Trump banner.
