A former Navy submariner sent to prison for photographing his ships classified engine compartments has filed a presidential clemency request, arguing that President-elect Donald Trump should realize the sailor was a scapegoat amid the FBI probe into Hillary Clintons mishandling of classified material.
The paperwork was filed Monday with the Justice Departments office of the pardon attorney, which now will conduct an investigation.
The case of former Machinist Mate 1st Class Kristian Saucier has become a cause celebre for conservatives. They watched the young sailor go to prison for carelessness with classified information while Mrs. Clinton avoided any punishment from the Obama administration.
The inmates mother, Kathleen Saucier, became his public advocate in TV interviews during the presidential campaign. She told The Washington Times that her message to Mr. Trump, who takes office Jan. 20, is: I would like to say to Mr. Trump that I believe that hes our hope to re-evaluate the way things are done in our government and that we, as American patriots, should never have to be in the position that myself and my family and I am sure many others have been.

Hillary for PRISON 2017!
Conservative Submariner here...this guy deserves no clemency...’Hillary did it too’ is not a legitimate defense.
I am empathetic. But even I know better that to bring a camera into some places, let alone take pictures.
Should he have been put in jail? Nah.
Should Hillary be prosecuted? Yup.
I don’t believe clemency is called for here. Classified stuff is just that; classified. The prosecution of one Hillary Rodham Clinton is what is called for here.

“The Russians Hacked my Photographs!”
RE: The prosecution of one Hillary Rodham Clinton is what is called for here.
And that is the point of the sailor to the US Government ... you either jail me or let me go (like you did Hillary ). Treat me the same as you treated Hillary.
The guy screwed up. Hillary needs to spend the rest of her days in Leavenworth.
The Hillary defense is lame. I understand brining to light the double standard especially since her crimes were far worse and damaging. But counting on it to get you out of being stupid, is equally stupid.
And I suggested they were unequal how?
Actually they claim her server is the only system the Russians did not hack. They could be correct you don’t have to hack something with no protection to begin with.
I’m sorry, but ...
I have to recognize confidentiality and competitive advantages in my workplace.
There are places where it is well known that cameras are not allowed.
This is in private industry, not military.
RE: And I suggested they were unequal how?
I never suggested that you suggested anything.
Agree
True. And no one hacked pervy Podesta either. He was so freaking stupid - he got phished and clicked the link that GAVE his data away.
The only hacking that I know of is the State of Georgia (and others) who had their election databases hacked.
BY OUR OWN FREAKING GOVERNMENT!!!
I’m a submariner too (USS Flasher SSN-613), and our whole Enginnering crew would go to jail for our deployment pictures between the main propulsion turbines. This is ridiculous.
Either prosecute Clinton or let this person off.
And get rid of any security laws or regulations. If they are not going to be enforced (or worse enforced selectively) get rid of them.
I thought that was the intent of the Orwell posting. My bad.
I was on ss581 and ssbn633, I agree, a pic of what ever room don’t mean nothing. Now passing other interior secrets is different. There are at least 20 countries with subs, a pic of the engine room aint squat.
I’m an older guy and we didn’t have cameras like today but yes I can definitely see 100s of sailors, marines, soldiers and airmen taking pics of themselves in their workplace.
The secrets are in the engineering, research and development of what was developed in that pic.
