Georgetown Professor Michael Eric Dyson is proposing the idea that white people should have an Individual Reparations Account to make donations to black institutions and individuals.
The idea is part of his forthcoming book, Tears We Cannot Stop: A Sermon to White America.
Dyson made the argument during an interview with Ana Marie Cox in the January 8 edition of the New York Times Magazine.
From the interview:
At the end of your sermon, you do a benediction section, in which you talk about making reparations on the local and individual level: donating to groups like the United Negro College Fund or a scholarship program, but also, to cite your example from the book, paying the black person who cuts your grass double what you might ordinarily pay. That gave me pause!
Good! I used to say in church, If the sermon aint making you a little bit uncomfortable, it aint effective. Look, if it doesnt cost you anything, youre not really engaging in change; youre engaging in convenience. Youre engaged in the overflow. Im asking you to do stuff you wouldnt ordinarily do. Im asking you to think more seriously and strategically about why you possess what you possess.
I agree with reparations, but maybe this is my white privilege speaking: I cant imagine actually doing that.
That is what I meant by an I.R.A.: an individual reparations account. You aint got to ask the government, you dont have to ask your local politician this is what you, an individual, conscientious, woke citizen can do.
But charity cant be the end of it, right? The Koch brothers gave the United Negro College Fund $25 million, but I doubt you would consider them woke.

Universities are replete with professional predators.
Send ‘em all back to Africa one way if they don’t like it here. Along with the moonbat leftard college “professors.”
The “Individual Reparations Account” is a brilliant idea! I have long been waiting for reparations for the four years my great great grandfather volunteered to serve in the 5th Wisconsin Infantry on the bloodiest battlefields of the Civil War so that black people could be free.
I’m opening my account tomorrow, and I can’t wait for the money from grateful black people to start flowing in.
From the looks of him, I’d say “cream in the coffee.”
I think it’s called the federal income tax.
Oh.
For a second there, I thought this was about me getting money back for paying for benefits to illegal aliens, foreign aid to countries that want me dead, and midnight basketball.
Oh, I got one, it’s right here I my pocket.
Why don’t you come take it, Mike.
I’ll be waiting.
I’d ask to see his birth certificate prior to 1863, but anymore, I’m sure they could doctor one up.
And liberals would declare it “valid”.
These liberal fools invent deliberately outrageous concepts in the desperate quest for relevance. Barring that, simple attention will do. And that’s all he is, viz. an attention whore. Like the child who exposes himself purely for the attention factor.
Only Democrats since Republicans had no slaves.
My great great grandparents were slaves. In Europe. They were white. GFY.
Reparations will do nothing to heal the rift. If anything, it will make it worse as working whites have their hard-earned money taken away and give to a person across the street because they are black.
How dare that racist bastard insinuate that blacks can’t save money for themselves!
Any feral dindus want to make a withdrawal?
Since the slaveowners and masters here were Democrats, since the KKK was a Democrat creation, since Democrats suppressed blacks under Jim Crow, since they blocked college doors, and continue to keep them in inner city desperation, it’s the Democrats the “Professor” should direct his wrath toward.
Come try to take my money, you POS.
