For the next week, not only will there be no U.S. Navy aircraft carrier in the Middle East, but there will be no American aircraft carriers deployed at sea anywhere else in the world, despite a host of worldwide threats facing the United States.

"...despite a host of worldwide threats facing the United States."

The worst threats to the American people are already inside the wire.

Is it true all of our ships were in port when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor?

All Pacific fleet battleships were in port. Carriers Enterprise and Lexington were at sea delivering aircraft to Wake and Midway, Enterprise was on its way back and lost some aircraft to jumpy Pearl Harbor AA gunners.

The Saratoga was in port in San Diego.

Seems like more than just an accidental oversight.

Don’t be surpised if there eventually surfaced some report of a curious rash of retirements by naval surface warfare flag officers who just happen to now be working in cushy jobs for defense contractors/defense lobbyists just under the wire before the new administration is able to put a stop to the revolving door practice.

My first thought is, what does Obama know that we don’t know?

It’s almost as if he’s hoping for a 2017 Pearl Harbor.

Congress needs to step in with this guy.

If the 25th amendment is used to declare Obama incompetent, and of course, Crazy Joe is de facto incompetent, then RINOcrat Ryan becomes President for a couple of weeks.

"Do you realize how many people there are helping him destroy this nation?"

Traitorcongress, for one, by their deliberate failure to impeach Traitorobama.

Stratfor only shows one carrier on deployment.

You may have to enter through Google, by pasting the link below and then searching.

We have 10 total CVN's and 0 conventional. Some Idiots who do the deployment and sea trials/shipyard/in port scheduling think it's cute placing 5 at NOB Norfolk at the same time. Pier 11 should be taken out and I will explain why. It was built in the 1980's. I got out in 1980 and it wasn't there then just piers 12 & 7 were carrier piers and only one carrier could moor at 7. Every foreign flagged freighter and tanker passes our carriers going up the channel to Norfolk International Piers and back.

At one point in the 1960's I think we once had 26 carriers active and only 3 carrier piers at NOB NORVA. The two east coast carrier yards are there as well. Re-open, upgrade, modify, Mayport as a homeport or develop another east coast homeport to place two carriers.

I think most of us by now have seen the pictures of 4 & 5 carriers at NOB NORVA. You can also see the carriers from I-64 and the Norfolk Naval Shipyards from the southern by-pass. So much for security huh?

As for how long can a nuclear vs conventional actually deploy before needed downtime in the yards? There actually is no difference except 5 years will be needed to refuel a nuke at half life. The shipyard rotations are essentially the same because non reactor core issues in the propulsion plant and the ships support equipment must still be repaired. We need to build 2-3 conventional steamers. Homeport two in the Pacific {one in Japan} and one on the east coast.

Stratfor seems to show the Eisenhower heading out when the Fox News article says it just returned to Norfolk.

So just one LHD, the Makin Island, currently at sea in the world and no carriers.

Just wow...

Good call.

I don’t know what to make of it, and they didn’t show the Reagan out, which one FReeper said was in the Japan region (I believe it was).

cva66snipe, should these be mentioned?

America-class amphibious assault ship - Aircraft carried:

AV-8B Harrier II
F-35B Lightning II
MV-22B Osprey
CH-53E Super Stallion or
CH-53K King Stallion
UH-1Y Venom
AH-1Z Viper
MH-60S Knighthawk

Wasp-class amphibious assault ship - Each ship is capable of hosting 1,894 personnel of the United States Marine Corps; almost the full strength of a Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).

I doubt they have managed to keep these all in port at the same time too.

. . . And the is always some significant percentage of those 10 in the shipyard for major rehabs. maintaining a carrier is a very big, very expensive, very complicated process.
