Debbie Reynolds Dead at 84
TMZ ^ | 12/28/2016 | TMZ

Debbie Reynolds -- who rose to stardom in "Singin' in the Rain" and quickly became a staple among Hollywood royalty -- died Wednesday as a result of a stroke, TMZ has learned ... just one day after her daughter Carrie Fisher passed away ... this according to her son Todd. Debbie was rushed to a hospital shortly after 1 PM when someone at the Beverly Hills home of her son, Todd, called 911 to report a possible stroke. We're told Debbie and Todd were making funeral plans for Carrie, who died Tuesday of cardiac arrest.

Debbie famously divorced Eddie Fisher in 1959 after his affair with Elizabeth Taylor. Debbie married 2 more times in 1960 and 1984. She played iconic roles in "Tammy and the Bachelor" and "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" ... for which she earned an Oscar nomination. Carrie's relationship with Debbie was the focus of Carrie's semi-autobiographical book, "Postcards from the Edge," which was later adapted for the big screen, starring Meryl Streep and Shirley MacLaine. Debbie's survived by her son Todd, who tells us, "She's with Carrie."

Oh how sad
But I can understand that the mother yearned to not let her daughter go ahead, alone

In the 60s my husband’s maternal aunt who was in her early 20’s was hit by a car and died in front of their family home. Her father, my husband’s grandfather, died the next morning of a massive heart attack.

HOLY S--T HER DAUGHTER JUST DIED YESTERDAY

When you're 84 and possibly in fragile health yourself, losing your child suddenly is bound to create stress than might lead to your own health crisis. Sadly, that's obviously what happened to Debbie. She was at her son's home and they were discussing funeral arrangements. Debbie said she wanted to be with Carrie, and then she suffered her fatal health crisis.

Heartbreaking, but in a sad way also uplifting that love can be so strong it can transcend death.

When my grandfather died in 1996 my grandmother lost the will to live..she had to take antidepresents because all she said was that she wanted to be with my grandpa, she struggled but she carried on surviving heart valve replacement, but when the time came and her body gave out in 2006 all she kept on saying in the hospital was “Let me go, let me go” and she did

They lived next door — just down a little hill. There is a documentary produced last May. It starts with Carrie walking a bowl of soup down to her mother discussing their relationship. It was very sweet and touching.

That could be a really funny bit, although a little too
soon. Mark Steyn was going off on whoever criticized a Steve Martin tweet that was nice and a little funny.

Someone mentioned earlier how Carrie Fisher would do a bit where she said her mother always tried to upstage her.

This may have been one of those times.

Omg, you are right!!! One reason for the family to
Smile through their tears. Carrie had such a great sense of
Humor.

This is sad. But I’ve always liked her better than her daughter. For just plain entertainment “Singing In the Rain” beats “Star Wars” in my book.

2016 was so bad

Actually, I think 2016 was great because our nation dodged the bullet of a potential Hillary Clinton election. I thank the Lord that Trump won.

Yes, along with uncounted anonymous millions who died this year, we lost the usual assortment of celebrities, but the nation and the world gained enormously with Brexit, the Italian rejection of statism, and the wonderful outcome of our election.

And remember, although each year sees millions of deaths around the world, each year also sees the birth of millions of babies...and that is a hopeful thing.

Just discovered the preview last night but can’t wait to watch the entire show. Hopefully now HBO will move up the air date from March.

No parent should have to experience burying a child.

RIP Debbie Reynolds.

“Good Lord. I’m sorry.”

Thank you. One of the things I remember is the sound - a horrible, pained, awful sound - my mother made when my father explained to her that her daughter had been killed. It was more than a scream. I just can’t really describe it, but it’s still in my head decades later.

A few years ago I was talking to my mother about the death of my cousin (the daughter of my aunt and uncle) and she said something that I never knew before. My father went with my uncle to identify the body. Later that night my father told my mother what happened. He said that when my uncle saw his daughter’s body he let out a sound, a terrible, awful sound of pain. My mother remembered my father sitting on the edge of the bed telling her this and saying he didn’t think he would ever get that sound out of his head. My father had fought in two wars, was wounded twice, lost friends, suffered, had nightmares, but it was that sound that he thought he would never get out of his head. A few years later I heard that sound from my mother when my sister was killed. I’ve never said anything about that to her. While she explained everything that happened with my uncle I just kept my mouth shut. For the parent who has lost a child - even decades later - the pain, the grief, can be overwhelming. I’ve seen it and I don’t wish it on anybody - not even my worst enemy.
