MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - Signs will soon be posted at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport with a warning that your current Minnesota drivers license wont be enough to pass through security in 2018.
Starting Jan. 22, 2018, you will need an alternate ID to fly if you have a standard drivers license or ID card issued by any of the following states: Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina or Washington. Alternate forms of ID include a passport, military ID, or permanent resident card. You can find a full list of accepted ID at https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification

Kansas is already compliant with “Real ID”.
Don’t be funny. Of course they won’t. In my opinion, the TSA should be abolished. Its only accomplishments has been to keep some perverts satisfied and make life miserable for the serfs that travel by airplane. They are the reason I no longer fly anywhere.
“”Why only those states?””
Because the states listed at the article have never complied with the REAL ID ACT or got extensions which have now expired.
BTW, you can write to get an official copy of your DD214. I noticed on the web some records were burning in a fire and mine fit the affected dates.
I found an address on the web and went to the site and found out how to get copies. I have TWO DD214s. One from a short and reup and the second from the second enlistment. Got both of them.
You can also get copies of your BC from your states DNR (I think). Did that too. I also got a copy of my SS card. I hated the process but it is still doable.
I got my RealID quickly because I read the instructions and requirements and had all the stuff needed. Easy.
Dump the TSA! Hire ex-Mosad agents to racially profile. No more strip searching 9- year olds.
Thanks for the reply.
I am not eligible for any veteran’s benefits, so don’t see the need in keeping up with a dd214 any more.
But you are right, just go to your state’s website on real ID, and the list of acceptable docs is very long. Go in prepared with your docs, and you are done in less than 15 minutes. The folks that have always gotten their way in the past by throwing a fit will NOT get their way this time.
here is the link that will tell you how to get a copy of your DD214 for free since it’s a basic military record.

If I am in a feisty mood o will use my concealed handgun permit. Given I was fingerprinted and had a background check to get it it is more “secure” than a DL. Does raise an eyebrow on occasion.
I don’t get veterans benefits either, but you should definitely have a DD214. Not being able to prove service can become problematic for any or no reason at all, with no notice.
Its the government after all.
Thank you for your service, and Merry Christmas!
In Kentucky we have to show our birth certificate NOT a copy of it, to get a driver license. So my KY ID ought to be quite sufficient.
It would be ironic if the people in these states (Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina or Washington) were locked out of flying because their leftist state and local politicians screwed up and failed to legislate adequately protected driver’s licenses.
Seems reasonable that, if we are so concerned about people passing as 21 for drinking purposes, that it would be equally important to stop anyone who is not a citizen, from voting. Of course the liberal mindset never sees it that way.
That's just it. It won't.
They're coming in over the border now that Obama stopped all border security. Once here they travel by auto.
The Real ID is for tracking and controlling Americans. Just like gun laws are for law abiding citizens.
The Constitution guarantees us right of free passage within our country and between the states (like that means anything anymore). Requiring papers to cross between states has been floated before at the federal level. Real ID is simply an early step on the road to doing that.
The federal government has no Constitutional authority to regulate our travel within the US. Between states or otherwise. The fact that it is going to these extremes without opposition is proof of the pathetic banana republic the US has become.
You had better double check so you don’t encounter surprises when you renew.
I still find no reason why having an ID that absolutely confirms who one is and where he is from is a bad thing.
We can all pooh-pooh the motives, but the end result is that if you are an illegal, you won’t be successful in getting a RealID, IMO. Obama’s reign will pass soon and then we can deal with the efficacy of a TSA and DHS hampering and limiting our internal freedom.
They should all be on the list but they aren't for some reason.
California has a super-majority in both legislative houses and the governorship. The state will pursue whatever course it deems fit.
Good luck with that, comrade. The TSA says weapons permits are not acceptable as identification.
Over a year from now is "Soon"?
