MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - Signs will soon be posted at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport with a warning that your current Minnesota drivers license wont be enough to pass through security in 2018.
Starting Jan. 22, 2018, you will need an alternate ID to fly if you have a standard drivers license or ID card issued by any of the following states: Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina or Washington. Alternate forms of ID include a passport, military ID, or permanent resident card. You can find a full list of accepted ID at https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification

I certainly hope so. The standards of proof of identity and birthplace under this act are substantial and requires 2-3 corroborating pieces of documentation.
We have this now in Georgia and an illegal can’t just come up and say whatever and get a license now. And, they are making EVERYBODY prove this, even to get a renewal of a license long-standing over decades.
I think it’s a good thing, myself.
Why only those states? Kansas has a significant illegal immigrant population and ought to be on the list.
Most of the people opposed to this thought it was as creating some kind of internal passport. What it was really doing was setting a standard for state ID and proof of identity.
But California, where they hand out drivers license like candy, is not on the list.
Hopefully this is an ‘oversight’ that will be remedied on 20 Jan 2017.
We’ve become prisoners in our country because of the surrender of responsibility at every level of government to protect its citizens from illegal invaders and Muzzie terrorists. It wasn’t so many years ago that no ID was required to fly, just your ticket and a boarding pass. And it wasn’t so long before that there were no metal detectors and long lines of passengers being hassled by security agents.
To my everlasting shame I live in a state (Washington) that allows illegals to obtain driver licenses. That was supposed to fix the uninsured driver - but was actually enacted to create a new pool of dhimmicrat voters.
Pubbie legislators tried to make the illegal driver licenses sport special markings so one would know that they’re not citizens but the dhimmicrats squashed that, saying it wasn’t “fair”.
As a consequence we now have dhimmicrat voter hegemony, more illegal drunks on the road, and real people have to carry a passport to travel in their own country.
Liberalism is a mental disorder.
“The Syrian refugees have to do this now, yes?”
Nope. 0bama is handing them all green cards, listed as acceptable form of ID.
Natural born Americans, no such accommodation.
But in certain states, your word is enough to get you registered to vote.
Of course not...you do not even have to prove you are a citizen.
Just more over-reach that we are allowing.
Here in NC we supposedly comply...yet illegals get licenses all the time. I suppose its because they have a utility bill in their name or some such.
Its just ridiculous.
Wish Trump would disband the TSA...jackbooted thugs...
You may be right, however, for us older folks it is quite a daunting project filled with confusing regulations, i.e. a bureaucratic nightmare. My birth cert needs to be reissued, but without a real ID I cannot prove anything. My DD214 is not good enough to prove I was in the mil without a valid birth cert, my SS card is no longer valid and will have to be reissued, and so on.
My mom went through this nightmare a decade ago and since her birth hospital burned down, she could not prove she was a citizen. So she could not fly out to visit me before she suddenly died.
There are likely millions of US citizens who will no longer be officially recognized as such and not permitted to fly or leave the country - I’m sure this list will grow until travel beyond the bounds of one’s home without papers is a criminal offense.
I am 67 and have the same documents you do/did. I’ve had copies of my DD214s, my birth cert, and SS card replaced over the last 10 years also.
I still think it’s an exercise worth doing. Especially if it will keep illegals and terrorists from melding into this society.
Your papers citizen?
I wonder if Obama could present sufficient ID to get one these kind of drivers licenses.
The solution is simple...
Just get a passport so you can travel within the borders of the USA.
Always be sure to have your papers in order and ready so you can hand them over when the friendly officer requests them.
Actually, I’m thinking NO.
I used my SSAN card I was issued in the 60s as well as my original “official” record of birth (it actually says this on it). Have lost my DD214, but had other, listed documents that satisfied the state bureaucrats.
I had a folder of documents to prove who I was, also had a state issued ID as well as a Fed issued ID.
I had no problem getting my RealID.
My m-i-l had the same problem.
Born at home, youngest of the children, nobody alive that was older and could vouch for her, all she had were church docs for baptism & marriage, and had gotten doc sec thru her husband ( back when church docs were OK to use), and her drivers license had expired (she had gotten that back when it was OK to use church docs to prove age).
Back before 9/11, it was rough being able to get her & her companion/attendant on the plane with us, to relocate them from NYC to L.A., but we found an airline that would deal w/ old people in their situation.
My husband rented an apartment on his credit & added her name to the lease so she could have a place to stay.
Trying to open a bank account where nobody knew her was interesting.
I talked to the bank manager & said “OK she’s getting her soc sec checks mailed to her in this town, now if she doesn’t have a bank account how will she be able to write a check and pay the rent?”
They let her open an account with her old d/l; she still had the funny 60’s hat from the picture & we brought it there to show it was her.
Look at the documentation requirements to get a passport.
There may be cases where people born here, of us citizens, get into a catch 22.
Need one doc to get the second one, but need the second one to get the one doc.
