resident Obama apparently wants his legacy to be one of energy starvation for the United States and dependence on foreign energy from friendly places like Saudi Arabia and Iran. His ban on offshore drilling in federally owned waters off our Atlantic and Arctic coasts makes no sense, either environmentally or economically. As the Washington Times notes, Obama thinks he can get away with it:
Vowing that his successor wont be able to reverse his actions, President Obama on Tuesday used executive authority to permanently ban new offshore drilling in federally owned waters off the Atlantic coast and in the Arctic Ocean.
Mr. Obama used authority in a section of the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, a 1953 law, to ban the drilling. The law includes a provision that allows a president to put certain waters off-limits to oil and gas production.
The presidential authority was used in conjunction with similar actions by Canada, which also moved to prohibit drilling in its own Arctic waters. The U.S. move will ban drilling in the vast majority of American waters in the Chukchi and Beaufort seas, in addition to areas off the Atlantic coast stretching from New England to Virginia.
It is ironic that a president who has used executive orders to get around laws now cites a 63-year-old law to justify an offshore drilling ban. Executive orders can be overturned with another executive order. And a 1953 law written when offshore and deep water drilling technology was in its infancy can be amended or repealed. Technology has advanced a lot since 1953. Hydraulic fracturing or fracking didnt exist six decades ago. Oil drilling technology is safer, more advanced and requires a smaller footprint.

Clinton sabotaged keyboards - Obama is trying to sabotage America. Trump will fix Obama’s crap as easily as the keyboards were remedied.
Horace Smith's "Ozymandias"
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.
We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

The fun of Wikipedia.
As one FReeper (I forget who) already said, so eloquently:
The only thing permanent about Obama’s legacy is that in a few days Obama will be permanently gone.
And the 25% luxury tax which crippled the auto industry and all but destroyed the boating industry....
My company, which was a major tier I supplier in Detroit was forced to sell off our wheel and brake division which resulted in a permanent loss of approx. 750 jobs at the plant.
I remember watching my Dad siphon gas from one of our vehicles to put in the other. Occasionally he’d get a mouthful of fuel and have to spit it out.
The same when we left Florida we were limited to the same amount as when we arrived
Yes I do remember that.
This is the face of arrogance. Look how looks down as if to say 'Ha I'm better than you all are'
I have noticed that this is a common expression among liberal elitists.

HA HA HA HA GA Righttttt. “Donald Trump wants to help the slumping oil and gas industry by cutting regulation and encouraging a lot more drilling. He even promised to “save” the coal industry.” 5-31-16.
“Unleash Americas $50 trillion in untapped shale, oil, and natural gas reserves, plus hundreds of years in clean coal reserves.”
“Become, and stay, totally independent of any need to import energy from the OPEC cartel or any nations hostile to our interests.”
“Open onshore and offshore leasing on federal lands, eliminate moratorium on coal leasing, and open shale energy deposits.”
“Rescind all job-destroying Obama executive actions. Mr. Trump will reduce and eliminate all barriers to responsible energy production, creating at least a half million jobs a year, $30 billion in higher wages, and cheaper energy.”
OOPS, HEH HEH
In your post you overlooked the most important consideration. economics and profitability.
The Gulf Of Mexico, the near shore arctic regions nor the onshore Arctic Naval Petroleum Reserve were included in the ban
The ban is an international joke
“Vowing that his successor wont be able to reverse his actions...”
In reality, there are very few executive orders/actions that a president takes that can’t be reversed.
Precedent is hard to reverse. But a ‘stroke of the pen’ only takes another pen to reverse it.
Obama’s executing scorched earth.
I HATE that. Such an A$$hole thing to do, such a loser’s tactic.
Perfect expression of 0bama’s time in office. Well done.
Again simple solution: Let the Russians drill and we’ll buy all the oil and natural gas.
Can’t take the car keys away from this slash, trash and burn traitor soon enough.
