Speaking on Thought for the Day, a short early morning slot on BBC Radio 4 dedicated to faith issues, the son of Britains reigning Monarch urged listeners to think of persecuted religious figures singling out Jesus Christ and Muhammad this Christmas. He said: Normally at Christmas we think of the Birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. I wonder though if this year we might remember how the story of the nativity unfolds, with the fleeing of the holy family to escape violent persecution. And we might also remember that when the prophet Muhammad migrated from Mecca to Medina he was seeking the freedom for himself and his followers to worship. Whichever religious path we follow, the destination is the same to value and respect the other person, accepting their right to live out their peaceful response to the love of God.

Winston Churchill wrote (concerning Islam), in The River War:
How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy.
The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property - either as a child, a wife, or a concubine - must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen: all know how to die. But the influence of the religion paralyzes the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world.
“This clown could very well cause the end of the British monarchy as we know it.”
Not too likely. Don’t forget that the ultraliberal Muslim-overrun Scandahoovian nations of Norway, Denmark, and Sweden still have enthroned monarchs.
Just a face to put on the sardine cans, but they’re there.
I’ve heard Brits, and read speculation say that he is showing signs of dementia. Not unheard of in the royal lineage.
No. Are you?
He gives horrible advise.
Yes, he does.
I would say this is the worst persecution of Christians since the Roman times. I take issue with the future King. Nowhere that I can think of in the world are Muslims persecuted. But Christians are in plenty of places.
Also, which Mohamed is he so found of? The bandit? The Jew killer? The pedophile?
Good advice. We should think of Mohamed this Christmas if we are at a concert like those in Paris, at a major soccer game, at a Christmas market, riding a Spanish train or the London Underground, at a night club in Orlando (or anywhere else), at a marathon that’s almost as well known as Boston’s, in an iconic tall building or the Pentagon, or anyplace else where Mohamed’s followers might “greet” us. We should think of them and remain alert at all times.
Can we somehow skip this idiot to give the crown to his son?
He’s the Prince of Wales, you’re thinking of the Duke of Earl!
Will HRH suggest to Muslims that they remember the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ in their Eid al Fitr celebrations?
I don’t think so.
Or the Duke of New York
Thanks, I know the history very well. I just don’t know the relevance to Prince Charles’s comments. Besides, the ‘German’ comments about the present day Royal Family are rather tired and often trite. The last British monarch to be born outside of Great Britain was King George II, way back in 1683.
Of course they have had strong German connections, with many of them following the Hanoverian tradition of marrying German princesses. Centuries before, the Norman lineage was dominant; we’ve also had the Welsh Tudors and the Scottish Stuarts, not to mention the brief reign of the Dutch William III.
German is not an insult. If people are eluding to the Nazis, then that is a different proposition. King Edward VIII’s highly suspect political views are well known, but his brother George VI (who also fought against the Germans at Jutland in the First World War) was a steadfast monarch in WWII, and his daughter has followed that example to the present day.
That front page of The Sun was treated with the derision it so rightly deserved.
WTH was Diana thinking when she married Charles? I never could figure out why such a beautiful woman would be so besotted with him.
At least William & Harry seem well grounded.
Yes, Charles III is an interesting play. I saw it in London with Tim Pigott-Smith. It focuses on Charles refusing to sign an Act, which he believed infringed on the right of a free press, this plunges the nation into a constitutional crisis.
It’s a very thoughtful play. Hope the Chicago performances are going well.
Amen to that. She must be so tired, but has pledged to give her life to her country, and cannot step aside knowing this bozo will inherit the spotlight.
That’s right, Albion Wilde.
It was on her 21st birthday, 21 April 1947, when she said:
“I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.”
This guy is so stupid, he treated Princess Diana like some sort of possession - what an idiot.
God forbid that he becomes England’s king. He would be known as Charles The Insipid..
If your second paragraph was intended as a defense of how Brit royalty became so, I commend your ability to do that with a straight face.
No, German is not an insult and I made/intended no incursions into a Godwin's Law violation. I spent three years there in the US military and thoroughly enjoyed my time among the German people. I developed a few good relationships with Germans and one was a WW2 Fallschirmjaeger.
I make no defense. It needs none. It is an explanation that an institution of 1000 years is necessarily a hodge-potch of various bloodlines and nationalities.
I was not referring to you and Godwin’s Law but that awful front page of The Sun has already popped up in this thread.
