Under Kristol’s editorship, The Weekly Standard has been the central publication for neoconservatives, including Kristol’s father, the so-called “godfather” of neoconservativism, Irving Kristol.
During the election season, Kristol was a leading voice in the #NeverTrump camp and searched publicly for months for a conservative alternative to Trump

How many of our vaulted wise ones were willing to sacrifice themselves on either the alter of Cruzism, Trump Derangement Syndrome, or were closet Unipartiers? Let's not even get into armchair shrink territory as how it was compulsive obsessive from some of them, and how they can't let go of it.
Or was it the fact that if Trump "fixes it" we don't need them for our daily mutual beeotchfest to commiserate on how screwed up things are, they are out of a job.

There were all sorts of strange comments here, that revealed the people hadn’t listened to even one of Trump’s rallies. And yet they were swearing they couldn’t support him.

Couldn’t give a good judgement of that, but it sounds entirely possible.
I disagree that Kristol searched for a CONSERVATIVE alternative to Trump.
