Trump attorney: Electoral College lawsuit could 'undermine' election results
The Hill ^ | December 12, 2016 | By Jennifer Calfas

A lawsuit filed in Colorado by two Democratic electors “threatens to undermine” the results of the 2016 election, says an attorney representing President-elect Donald Trump.

The lawsuit challenges a state law requiring electors to vote for the winner of the state’s popular vote.

“Of course, President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence have more than enough electoral votes to secure their respective offices,” wrote attorney Christopher Murray in a filing submitted to the court, as reported by POLITICO. “Plaintiffs’ lawsuit, however, threatens to undermine the many laws in other states that sensibly bind their electors’ votes to represent the will of the citizens, undermining the Electoral College in the process. That is why the President-elect and his Campaign seek to intervene in this case.”

Hillary Clinton won Colorado’s Electoral College votes on Nov. 8. But depending on the result of the lawsuit, similar laws in 28 other states — including several in which Trump won the popular vote — could be in jeopardy. . .

It will be fine.

Trump has won the recount opposition in all three states and he will win this.

A complete farce. The constitution plainly states the state legislature has the power to determine how the electors for each state are chosen. So whatever law the state legislature has established governing the selection of the electors is prima facie constitutional, and the courts have absolutely nothing to say on the matter.

Why would a U.S. District Court be hearing a state issue?

The Dems are wanting to destroy the Trump presidency more than they went after Nixon and “W” combined. Hopefully, folks will realize that the Dems and leftists refuse to play by the rules and are desperate not to lose power.

The lawsuit challenges a state law requiring electors to vote for the winner of the state’s popular vote.

No standing, the case isn't ripe. It should be thrown out.

No tort has actually occurred yet. The elector would have to vote contrary to state law and then the state would have to seek the retribution allowed by law for the elector to claim a case. Nothing to see here other than more whining from the left.

I'd like to have some cheese with that whine.

I said early on these are violent, leftwing communists who will stop at nothing to complete their commie coup d’etat...and many laughed off my concern.

Judge Wiley Daniel, who was appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1995, will hear the case.

You’re correct, although I wouldn’t put any trust in our courts, considering how poltiicied they have become.

We’ve even had a couple of SC justices weigh in on one of the candidates.

Reminder: 2020 is a Census year.

That means the 2020 Electoral College will be different from this year. Current estimates look like a net +1 for Trump states, but that is only that low because WI, MI and Ohio went Trump. They are losing EVs.

Texas will gain 3. Calif 1. Oregon 1. FL 1. CO 1. VA +1.

The rest net out.

These lawsuits have no basis and are frivolous. They are alleging that the drafters of the constitution “intended” the electors to be free to vote for whoever they wish. Of course, they have no law or facts to back that up. Don’t worry, this is even more bogus than the recount litigation.

States legislatures determine how electors are appointed. If these Democrats don’t like it, too bad.

It also wouldn't make it through the system by next Tuesday.
