John Kennedy wins Senate Seat in Louisiana - Republicans now control Senate 52-48

Posted on 12/10/2016 7:31:00 PM PST by SamAdams76

Great news out of Louisiana tonight. With 80% of the vote in, John Kennedy (R) is blowing out Foster Campbell (D) by a 64-36% margin.

Some insurance for the Republican majority and this virtually guarantees that President Elect Trump gets the Cabinet he wants.

McCain and Graham make it a 50-50 senate with Pence as the tie breaker.

Are those 52 with or without McCain and Graham?

He gave that up even before Trump did. You appear to be stuck.

And Trump was one of those urging Rubio to reconsider and run for re-election - likely for that reason. It’s extraordinary how clueless some choose to be.

“...virtually guarantees that President Elect Trump gets the Cabinet he wants.”

Graham and McCain, will form an alliance with another RINO to vote against confirmation of any cabinet member who can’t beat a filibuster.

Wiki:
Under Louisiana’s “jungle primary” system, all candidates appeared on the same ballot, regardless of party, and voters could vote for any candidate. Since no candidate received a majority of the vote during the primary election, a runoff election was held on December 10[2] between the top two candidates in the primary, Republican John Kennedy and Democrat Foster Campbell. Louisiana is the only state that has a jungle primary system (California and Washington have a similar “top two primary” system).

Weren’t Manchin and another Dem Senator—I forget, a female from the upper West, I believe—also under consideration for appointments by Trump?

Then, of course, many more Dems than Pubs are up for reelection in 2018.

I wonder if Ayotte’s loss will chasten Collins—or just encourage her in her perfidy.

You’re right, I forgot Heidi Heitkamp D-ND. So if she and Manchin are offered and accept prominent positions in the WH, that would leave the Senate at 54-46, and the Dems would have to flip *5* GOPe Senators their way to Do The Dirty on America.

Big dummy.

I never told my wife FR was down, but I got a lot done anyway.

I fixed a hole in her muffler and my son and I completed a project we’ve been working n for a while.

It was a good day, albeit without FR

Louisiana elected Republicans in all three runoff federal elections.

Republican state Treasurer John Kennedy’s victory Saturday gives the GOP a 52-48 edge in the
Senate starting in January. .....

Voters also chose Republican Clay Higgins, a former sheriff’s captain known as the
“Cajun John Wayne,” in the 3rd District representing southwest and south central
Louisiana. Republican state Rep. Mike Johnson won the 4th District, covering
northwest Louisiana.
