Donald Trump pulled off one of the greatest political feats in modern history by defeating Hillary Clinton and the vaunted Clinton machine.
The election was a complete repudiation of Barack Obama: his fantasy world of political correctness, the politicization of the Justice Department and the I.R.S., an out-of-control E.P.A., his neutering of the military, his nonsupport of the police and his fixation on things like transgender bathrooms. Since he became president, his party has lost 63 House seats, 10 Senate seats and 14 governorships.
The country had signaled strongly in the last two midterms that they were not happy. The Dems answer was to give them more of the same from a person they did not like or trust.

Glad to see you’re adhering to the rules. :)
Excellent article, coming from Maureen, I must say.
We should be encouraging her if this is her viewpoint. Maybe she’ll come over to our side.
Than again, maybe not. But if she can write this, I say let’s give her a huzzah.
From what I have read about Douglas, one might consider Dowd the winner in not ending up with him.
The link says it was written by her brother Kevin.
You mean this nasty Maureen Dowd *knew* all of this, after all, and after all this time? That opening sentence there in the excerpt is pretty astounding.
This weirdo now chortles the obvious, after she declared her amusement and attraction for it, eight years running.
Anyone who raised a doubt of the Obama direction, she happily mocked and minced to fine dust, in her word blender, at the New York Times.
Actually her right-thinking brother deserves all the praise; he wrote the majority of this. I’m somewhat heartened by the fact that even this out-of-touch New York liberal has a decent conservative family to go home to.
Wow! imagine getting throat cancer from that!
I agree with and am in shock that Dowd would write such an article.
Check it again. I did, because I couldn’t believe that that hack could suddenly have started to see the election for what it was.
And she didn’t. That excerpt is the beginning of a letter sent to her by somebody else. That’s “her” column today.
This is an annual column written by her brother Kevin, a conservative.
She didn’t, her brother did.
She didn’t write it. Her brother wrote it.
She is doing what many of the introspective in media are doing. Not so much “How did we get it wrong?” as much as “How did we lose contact with these former Democrats?”
The ones with principles will conclude . . . well, I’m not going to become conservative, but these former Democrats who voted Trump can certainly be brought back to the light, and that must be our goal.
Those without principles will decide to pander to the new Trump Democrats and try to get their vote by looking like Trump but not sounding like him.
I think Mo’s brother who wrote the article...
Wow! So this is what MoDo sounds like sober!
I’m not sure from the formatting, but it seems as if her brother Kevin wrote most of it, and she just quoted him.
Still, huzzah. But then, I’ve always thought she was kinda hot ;-)
Read the link. Her BROTHER wrote hat part.
Kevin WROTE this. NOT Dowdy Doody MO.
For pointing that out, I thank you. The whole thread kinda missed that.
