Popular Kids Magazine has Caved to the LGBTQ

Highlights, the nationally recognized magazine for kids, has decided to include same-sex families in their magazines. Babies and preschoolers will soon be introduced to homosexuality in the Highlights line of magazines. Sadly, children's publications are no longer off limits, even those designed specifically for toddlers and elementary age children.

Highlights had stated previously that they believe parents should decide when to bring up the topic of homosexuality. But after backlash from the LGBT community, Highlights committed to including same-sex families in future publications.

Highlights' Christine Cully said, "When we do show families in the magazines, we make it a point to include diversity. We strive to be diverse in every way…In the future, we will depict same-sex families in our magazines in a manner consistent to the way all diverse families are depicted."

Many parents and grandparents buy subscriptions to these magazines as gifts, especially at this time of year. They should be warned of the upcoming change of content in these kid's magazines. It is not Highlights' job to introduce so-called "social issues" to children. That is a parent's role.

About 3 weeks ago, the school sent a Highlights subscription form home with my grandson. So, we logged in online and order him a subscription to “Boys Life” instead.

My recollection is that Someone said that if that happened to them they’d be getting off easy.

Just a few weeks ago, I ordered a Highlights subscription for my 2 year old Granddaughter. I will tell my son to throw it away when it gets there and I will not renew. She is not old enough to do the little magazine alone so they will be able to monitor what is in it. So sad that our institutions are being co-opted by such sleazy people.

Goofus and Gallant are long gone.

Apparently just star-crossed lovers.

So the next we see, Gallant is transgender and Goofus is the straight bad guy?

Spare me.

My niece has a six year old and she was having a hard time in knowing how to react or interact with her daughter about the gay thing.

I told her to say some people are very confused and think they are a boy when they are really a girl or a girl when they are really a boy. We don’t act mean to them because they don’t know any better and can’t see the truth about themselves. We are nice to everyone even if they are mentally off and confused. Since they can be violent and mean if confronted about their confusion, we ignore the subject and just pray for them.

I haven't seen Highlights for decades. Are you saying they are no longer part of that magazine? If so, when were they dropped?

That is a shame that they decided to cave to a tiny minority of the population. And since Highlights is intended for a very young audience, why do they have to bring up differences in sexuality? Those kids likely are not even aware of sexuality, being so young. I remember having a ball trying to solve the “What is Different in These Two Pictures” feature while in a doctor’s or dentist’s office. With this change, I’ll bet a lot of people will cancel their subscriptions.

I sent this to my mother in law. She has ordered a subscription for my daughter (7) for the last several years. I told her not to bother next year. She’s going to call them and cancel.

I know Goofus and Gallant were not in the magazine 15 years ago. I went to show my daughter the lessons I remember from my youth, and they were no longer there.

This is part of the problem. G&G were part of building a common culture - manners, respect for authority, absolute right and wrong. Those values are no longer tolerated with 'diversity'

I'm getting to the point where I will be having grandchildren. Highlights will not be part of that experience

Never heard of it until now. Don’t think anyone I know has heard of it either.

Probably has the level of readership of some of those local alternative “newspapers” which can’t afford to charge anything.
