Democrats are increasingly antsy over the lineup President-elect Donald Trump has announced for his Cabinet, but they are also powerless to do very much to stop him thanks to their own leader, Sen. Harry Reid.
Its unlikely Mr. Reid had a President Trump in mind when he pulled the so-called nuclear option trigger three years ago, changing Senate rules to eviscerate the use of a filibuster to block presidential nominees.
Set up to help President Obamas picks overcome GOP opposition, those same rules now will clear the path for Sen. Jeff Sessions to become the new attorney general, Rep. Tom Price to head Health and Human Services and two billionaires to lead the Treasury and Commerce departments.
Liberal interest groups are pleading with Democrats to fight the nominees, even though theres not a lot they can do without the filibuster and against a unified GOP.

You assume that the faint-hearted McConnell will employ the nuclear option -- no sure thing.
You also assume that the likes of Lindsay Graham, John McCain and Susan Collins et al will vote or Sessions -- no sure thing.
Ignorant demorats!
It’s called...biting you in the arse...
You assume they won’t back Sessions, while nothing is a sure thing I’m betting they will.
We warned them at the time that this move might one day come back to haunt them. Live by the sword, die by the sword.
McConnell will if his wife’s confirmation is last, and made contingent on him cooperating.
Ow we get to hear the chorus “Reach across the aisle”; I recall the chorus we heard from Obama and when he took office “Sit down and shut up”.
Reminds me of the old adage “What is good for the goose, is good for the gander”. Good deeds done to democrats are not seen as civil behavior; inferiors only see civil behavior as a weakness. Just like Muslims. And we know how Muslims exploit civil treatment.
Trump choosing McConnell`s wife for a cabinet post may have the benefit of keeping McConnell in line.
Pence said things will move very quickly. I wonder how they’ll manage it
I think the only thing that will surprise [voters] is that Washington, D.C. is going to get an awful lot done in a short period of time, Pence told The Wall Street Journal Thursday after introducing Trump, the president-elect, at a rally in Cincinnati.
Just wow. World leaders falling like dominos, panic in China and the the Mid East, wailing and gnashing of teeth at home. The next six months are shaping up to be almost as intense as the election was.
Be careful of what you ask for you may get it.
Doesn’t the new Senate have to keep the rules in place? I predict McCain, Graham and Flake make sure it goes back to Democrat-friendly
Sounds like you've read "The Art of the Deal." I hope President Trump has also!
Suck it up, Buttercups. You were warned.
There has been an old adage around since the beginning of politics: Never take on a power you do not want your enemies to use against you.
The eGOP wimped out so the dims were emboldened. But there is a new sheriff in town and he WILL take and use all that armament you stockpiled thankyouverymuch.
If Trump and the revitalized GOP can keep the ball in the building we should have 16-24 years of WIN!
Trump has some democrats that will vote with him too, the democrats in red states who are up for election in 2018.
Sen mcamnesty and grahamnesty will join the democrats.
Don’t be surprised if Mitch McTurtle reinstates the old rules as a gesture of friendship and a display of reaching-across-the-aisle.
