General Motors (GM) stands to lose $9,000 on every Chevy Bolt it sells, according to a Bloomberg report that cites a person familiar with the matter.
The anticipated per-sale loss of roughly $8,000 to $9,000 is an estimate based on a sticker price of $37,500, the report said, and it sheds light on the actual profitability of electric cars in the U.S., which have been billed by some as the future of the automotive industry.

Time for another bailout. Oops, Trump may not go for a green bailout. Why should taxpayers be on the hook for their stupidity? Maybe they were counting Hillary to get elected and now they’re up the creek.
They plan to make it up on volume.
This car is a fool’s car made by fools...
You know, President Trump might not approve of those regulations. GM is deliberately losing money because of market distorting ideas.
They’ll just mark up the prices on the large pickups and SUVs to cover the “green” losses, just as they’ve been doing thus far.
i would NEVER buy a battery car. the battery has lots of problems including environmental
but consider also that our local electric company is a greedy corrupt monopoly that buys the rate increases it wants anytime it wants them, resulting in $150 a month chrages for just modest E use without any heating gas at all (gas turned OFF all month)
turn on the light bulb and a fan, yes with a small refrigerator but almost zero cooking going on.... and you pay $150!
ripoff ripoff ripoff.
NO WAY am I gonna give the ripoff monopoly electric company control over my transportation, too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They will make it up on volume no worries
.
We really need to ban electric cars on interstate funded highways.
They are guaranteed deathtraps and potential road blocks if the power grid goes down.
We simply cannot take the chance of hazard that they pose.
.
Nonsense. Stockholders and buyers of their products loose it.
You’d have to be a nut to buy a Bolt.
.
Electric cars are rolling coffins.
.
I’ll buy one cheap to drive around my yard.
They lose a little on every sale but make it up on volume.
well there IS that little detail, yes
also the battery mining and disposal is terribly bad on the environment
Yy, yet another greenie wet dream vehicle that pollutes worse than a normal vehicle.
(Look it up greeners, the heavy metals in the batteries, plus the plastics, plus the power generation to charge it. It is a coal burner in effect.)
The company is taking a $9000 hit per car.
Can someone explain WHY in the world they’d do that??
Companies are supposed to run at a PROFIT. Where is the logic and sense in this bonehead move?
