The Nielsen estimates revealed that ESPN lost 555,000 subscribers during the last month.
In other words, ESPN essentially lost the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico. This, coming on the heels of last month, the worst month in ESPN history, where the network lost 621,000 subscribers.
In the last two months, ESPN has lost 1,176,000 subscribers, a subscriber loss nearly the size of the city of Dallas, Texas.
...explanation for the networks cratering subscriber base. ESPN Ombudsman Jim Brady, admitted that the network lurched way too far to the left in recent years, alienating many viewers.

"The North remembers ..."
This is what happens when you use your business for things other than what you founded your business for. If you have a mission statement and core direction for your organization, then it is best to NOT deviate from that mission.
Corporate culture has evolved over the past decade to include the greater societal culture. This is in fact a direction that is void of benefit for the organization. No company can be ‘everything’ to all people and playing to cultural demands only results in destroying a business.
A company has two obligations to society. To follow their mission statement and follow the written legislated laws, anything more than that and the deviation results in profit losses.
Liberals destroy. Also factor in the failed money pit they created with the “Longhorn Network” (Univ of Texas) which is losing millions per year due to how they set it up.
I was one of them!!!
“Now Im paying $70/mo for 100MB internet and less than $5 a month for 950 channels of IPTV. So Im saving over $100/mo and loving it”
Who are you getting your internet from?
Thanks
The Television broadcasters and announcers, and those in radio are college graduates. They are a part of the E LIGHT and think Rush Limbaugh is a bloviating idiot, and the right wing wants Jim and Tammy Baker in the White House.
The bundling makes it difficult for me to build a package with any provider that includes what my wife and I want. In order to get that odd channel or two, we keep getting stuck with a bunch of channels we do not want. I currently have DirecTV, but I am thinking of returning to DISH. They have a package called Flex Pack that potentially includes most of the channels my wife and I watch. The downside is that I would lose Root Sports, which is the only way to watch the Astros games (Root is only on Comcast and DirrecTV here in Texas). But, I have simply got to stop paying so much for programming.
My favorite era of programming was the time I had a big C-Band dish. All the programming was a la carte. You could buy a years worth of a channel for a few bucks a year, or add combos of a few channels that were owned by the same company. My yearly programming cost was about what I am now paying monthly. This sort of programming came to an end for me when channels started going digital. The company that serviced and repaired my C-Band switched over to mini-dishes, and I could no longer get the dish repaired. It would have eventually needed upgrading in order to receive the feeds that had gone purely digital.
They also have added the female factor. Some of them are very adapt at reading the promoters.
I’m with you! Jack Buck was great but his son exudes arrogance. I can’t stand him.
I agree with you; I think Skipper winds up getting fired over this debacle, and it’s not entirely his fault. Millions of viewers are tired of paying outrageous cable bills for “tiers” of channels they don’t watch. So, they cut the cord and pay for what they want, and that movement is only accelerating.
At the same time, Disney is leaning heavily on ESPN to deliver an even bigger chunk of it profits. There has been some heavy cost-cutting in Bristol over the past 18 months; the sports channel was ordered to cut more than $200 million in expenses to meet revenue and profit projections. But that becomes almost impossible when you’re hemorrhaging subscribers—remember, cable operators pay ESPN $6 per subscriber per month—highest fee in the industry, and that’s a big part of the network’s bottom line.
Not sure Bodenheimer can turn it around, but toning down the PC on-air product might slow the bleeding. Moving MNF back to ABC also makes sense, since that network is also losing viewers by the boatload. The need some sort of program that people will actually tune into.
Headline: Kaepernick Kills NFL ESPN
Too much leftist anti-American political propaganda. To e s p n: “Just shut up and throw the damned ball.”
I’ve stopped watching since ESPN went political and all SJW on it’s viewers. Also boycotting the NFL and the NBA. Having a harder time doing without the NBA
I can count all the games I watched last year on 1 hand and I haven’t even seen a snap this season. Guess that makes me #BoycottNFL too.
Just wait until pick and choose becomes reality. ESPN will be the first thing to go. I never watch it, but have to pay for it as part of a package. And that sucks.
I do think ESPN needs to do the following besides cutting back to the creeping Leftism in the network:
1. Emphasize a lot more sports on ABC. This means Saturday evening sports on ABC (they've done that now with college football and the NBA very successfully).
2. Put the College Football Playoff and College Football Championship Games on ABC. Ratings will end up being much higher because people who have no cable TV access can watch the games.
3. Bring Monday Night Football back to ABC and negotiate a deal to get more attractive matchups with the games back on ABC. Also, with ABC now broadcasting MNF again, that puts ESPN/ABC into the rotation to get the Super Bowl broadcast on ABC again.
My wife agrees with you 100%!
She loves football and says, “they don’t belong there”.
I’m one. Dropped direct tv
