Advocates of public education in the United States have worried that President-elect Donald Trump would tap an education secretary who would speed up the privatization of public schools, a move that many fear could destroy Americas public education system, the countrys most important civic institution. Well, they were right about the appointment and then some.

Seen by her supporters as a tireless, driven supporter of school choice, opponents say she is the most ideological and anti-public education nominee ever to be put forward to run the the nearly 40-year-old department.

Sister in Law and her husband voted union - hillary.
I figure I’ll be thrown out by the time Turkey hits the table!!!
Should probably eat first.
It would be different. What would happen would be that inner city or near inner city private schools would “spring up.” Locals who have done well could run them. They could still be choosy about their student body, choosing the brightest, the hardest working, the best behaved. But it would be an individual effort with motivated staff, inspiring curriculum, all on the local level. Of course their can also be lousy schools run by charlatans too. Caveat emptor.
It should be far easier to create a First Private School Of Riffraff.

YEA!!!!!
He made a great choice then.
On your journey from the Magna Carter to the present day, pause at the creation of public schools in this country by churches and local communities.
There is no no special magic in “elected school boards”. Some of the finest educational institutions are not run by “elected school boards”.
We have a stinking mess in North Carolina because a couple of idiots elected to the Charlotte City Counsel wanted to display their hyper-progressive bona fides by proclaiming that queers could use the women’s restrooms, changing rooms & showers.
Not for nothing but you really should post a link if you’re going to throw something like that out there just so you don’t get asked a hundred times if nothing else.
I like the idea of vouchers, but my main concern would be that the government will then try to dictate what the private or religious schools will teach in order to conform to the prevalent left wing societal standards of sexual (im)morality, etc. Maybe less of a concern under Trump, but would be under any future or local Dem administration.
Enabling children to leave their local schools for public education takes away the most motivated students and parents from their local schools and foists them on communities where they won't be as involved.
Not all charter schools are bad in this regard. There are cases where they've opened in fragile communities and offered a positive option. The problem is that they often become money sucking machines getting way too much financing, at the expense of public schools.
I worry about education as a business just like I worry about medicine as a business. The profit motive changes what is at heart an art a science and a profession of human passion to a dry robotic job and to returns on shares and a salary rather than a stipend of a professional.

2. By whatever name, Christian parents form local school corporations of boards, and directly hire the non-union teachers of your choice.
3. Churches, sponsor church schools.
4. ALL. Tell government to get out of the education business and stop funding government-union public education through private property taxation.
In every case of a private school, there is at least one adult who cares enough about the child's education to place the child in a private setting.
“Breitbart says shes a Common Core supporter”
Hopefully, during their interview, Trump received her assurance to drop that notion....
I’m all in on vouchers.
Wary of corporate charter schools. Another vehicle for political payback. See Chicago.
No.
“I don’t know about that. If you don’t like that school board...”chose” another school.”
Defines the meaning of the word choice. If that school doesn’t perform as you expected then pull them out and put them in a school that does. Those schools will eventually have to shut down or get up to speed just to stay above water. They die on the vine.
“Trump terrifies public school advocates with education secretary pick” Ain’t it nice? Break the back of the Democrats’ teachers union money laundering operation and bye bye rats.
“This is the real problem. I’m not fond of unions, but they are the one thing that keeps society from just blaming the teachers and keeping up a revolving door of college kids coming in, teaching for 3 years, getting scapegoated, fired, and replaced with newer, even cheaper 22 year olds. Without unions, that’s what you’ll get, because it’s the easiest path. Parents won’t take responsibility. Administrators won’t. Teachers are the easiest target. We’re the soldiers on the frontlines, the most expendable. Cannon fodder.”
The problem is 22 year old’s teaching period, they haven’t even grown up themselves. And let me say heaven forbid that a government employee have to work in the same environment as private employee’s where you actually do get your arse fired for poor performance or simply get laid off when the economy goes south. Under no circumstance should any city, state, or federal employee’s be allowed to unionize. When these unions go to the bargaining table the one person not represented at that table is the person actually footing the bill. In the private sector the owner has a major seat at that table. FDR knew this and is the reason he despised government unions.
Breitbart and others have been thoroughly debunked on her Common Core stance.
