"Should California become a free, sovereign, and independent country?"
The question could appear on a statewide ballot in 2018 if a group of secessionists has its way.
Marcus Evans, the vice president of Yes California, filed a proposed ballot measure with the Attorney General's Office on Monday that would appear on the November 2018 gubernatorial ballot.
If voters approve the measure, it would establish a special election in March 2019 to ask voters again if they want California to become an independent country, Yes California wrote in a ballot measure filing.
More than half of the registered voters in the state must participate in the special election and at least 55 percent must vote "yes" for the proposal to move forward, according to information submitted by the group. If voters approve the measure, "the governor shall carry and shepherd an application for the newly independent Republic of California to join the United Nations," they say.
Evans said the group filed the ballot proposal in response to an uptick in support in a deep-blue state following the election of Donald Trump.
You may think, what does it matter? California can't unilaterally decide to withdraw from the Union. But you forget, there are two legal standards: one for conservatives and one for liberals. Conservatives are prosecuted if they choose to disregard laws or even regulations or court decisions on marriage being redefined to include same-sex couples, letting boys in girls' bathrooms, or voter ID nullification. But liberals are held to a very different standard. They create sanctuary cities in defiance of federal law without consequence. They legalize narcotics, first timidly for "medical" use, then boldly for "recreational" use, despite prohibitions in federal law, and have suffered no penalty for it.

They are just having a Progtard hissy fit. They sadly aren’t going anywhere.
What if we keep a few military bases in California, like we did in Cuba with Gitmo? We could close Gitmo, and stockpile terrorists in the Presidio. We could built a YUGE nuclear waste dump in Nevada on the California border, upstream from California. Turn California in a literal as well as metaphorical toxic waste dump.
Try it, CA. The Yankees will come over, kill you, and reconstruct yo azz. Then you get carpetbaggers like Hillary to come over and run the show for you. Besides, CA will be known as Atzlan before long, so no worries. You may get you wish after all!
Seems like that particular question was litigated so to speak in 1861-65......
If California were to secede, it would begin the unraveling of the entire nation, which is the goal of the open borders crowd — to break up the nation or breed it out of existence.
Tom McClintock supported it.
Hollywood would be gone so secession might be a good thing. If they passed the measure, the next morning there needs to be military on the border to keep folks from moving east. And yes, Northern California deserves the chance to be their own state.
The open border crowd loves our dictatorial all powerful federal govt. The Fed ties the hands of states which cannot enforce their own borders. In essence the Feds are holding down the victim(states) while the globalists rape them.
The US Constitution is (still) silent on the subject of secession.
I'm on board with that, now that the Texas wine industry is coming into its own.
On top of that, I recently discovered the website of my favorite winery in Germany. It was about a ten minute drive of the town I lived in for 4 years. I just received my first purchase...including shipping, I paid roughly 40% of retail, and all were gold or silver medal winners.
IOW, I'm set.
The libturds ain’t gonna let it fly. They’re not just gonna surrender 55 EVs. They’re gonna to anything they can to put the quits on this thing. Or maybe they’ll all move there. Hey, I can dream
great idea!
I would support simply kicking LA and SF out of USA and building 2 more walls around those communist cesspools.
Californians would like being under a queen...
I can just picture the new Republic of California flag: Pink, with mauve and beige, depicting a bear in a sombrero anally raping a smaller bear.
The wall would get a lot longer and more expensive.
>> Oh, that would be a great gift to the rest of the nation, they can take the 2 states above it with them
Yes! Manifest destiny still applies because of Alaska, Hawaii and Guam.
What kind of Tariffs would be imposed on imports from California?
