South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, a rising Republican star and daughter of Indian immigrants, has accepted President-elect Donald Trumps offer to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in the coming administration, according to a person familiar with the selection process.
The move, which will be announced Wednesday morning, was first reported by the Post and Courier , comes as Trump advisers are seeking to diversify his ranks and marks his first female appointment to a cabinet-level post.
The person spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a decision that has not yet been announced by Trumps transition team.
Haley, 44, who is serving her second term, has worked on trade and labor issues as governor but brings little foreign policy experience. Her views on various U.S. military and national security matters usually fall within the GOPs hawkish mainstream.
Trump met with Haley last Thursday at Trump Tower in New York as part of the round of meetings the president-elect has held.
If confirmed, Haley would be replaced by South Carolinas Lt. Gov. Henry McMaster, a top Trump ally. His ascension is seen inside of Trumps inner circle as a welcome consequence of her departure, the person said a way to promote them both.

Smoke screen. Kasich is pro TPP and a jerk. Trump would never hire him.
Yup. UN ambassador is nothing more than a salaried seat warmer. Trump hates the UN.
Yes. And now he has sidelined her in a post where she has to toe the line or get fired. While a Trump loyalist takes over as Guv in SC.
This Neuters Haley as a sideline critic, eliminates her source of power and cuts her off from challenging Trump in 2020. Plus ads a woman to his adm. and he gets credit for having the capacity to work with folks who don’t always agree with him.
Bingo!
This could mean Romney will NOT be SOS. He has now proven his willingness to appt a former #neverTrumper and is free to turn Milt down without people believing Trump was vindictive in any way.
All the rumors that Milt is top contender are planted by Trump IMHO. Think Lucy and football.
Fill a useless position
Good buddy takes over SC gig.
Nope. Ambassadors are empty suits. Trump will be making the deals.
What would you say if he picks Haley AND Romney for SoS? Another brilliant strategy?
He also gets to appoint a woman to what sounds like an important post.
My understanding was that Pence was always his top pick for VP.
Now that was a good pick. :)
No. If he picks Romney for SOS I will be disappointed. I do not think he will. I think he’ll pick Rudy.
Nikki Haley would be added onto this list:

For a position nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate, it seems singularly unimpressive. There are some impressive intellectuals with great minds, but that’s just about it. Other than 19711973 George H. W. Bush, none of them have gone on to a significantly higher role in government.
Is it too much to ask that you wait and see IF Trump picks Romney, before using that selection against him?
That was my understanding too. Iirc, Trump said something to this effect, following the formal Pence announcement.
These Globalist Republicans he empowering will succeed Trump one day, and undo most of what he did- just like Bush undercut Reagan.
Foolish strategy by DJT imo.
When, according to you, will Nikki Haley become POTUS—in 4 yrs, or 8?
The Peter Principle at work with a big benefit as it pertains to now Gov McMaster.
It's brilliant. The article states that the LtGov is a Trump ally. This keeps her out of elective politics without insulting her supporters.
