South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, a rising Republican star and daughter of Indian immigrants, has accepted President-elect Donald Trump’s offer to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in the coming administration, according to a person familiar with the selection process.
The move, which will be announced Wednesday morning, was first reported by the Post and Courier , comes as Trump advisers are seeking to diversify his ranks and marks his first female appointment to a cabinet-level post.
The person spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a decision that has not yet been announced by Trump’s transition team.
Haley, 44, who is serving her second term, has worked on trade and labor issues as governor but brings little foreign policy experience. Her views on various U.S. military and national security matters usually fall within the GOP’s hawkish mainstream.
Trump met with Haley last Thursday at Trump Tower in New York as part of the round of meetings the president-elect has held.
If confirmed, Haley would be replaced by South Carolina’s Lt. Gov. Henry McMaster, a top Trump ally. His ascension is seen inside of Trump’s inner circle as a welcome consequence of her departure, the person said — a way to promote them both.

I don’t want to bother you with logic, but I’ll ask this anyway. Why would Haley give up her job as governor only to be fired from her next/chosen replacement job?

UN ambassador is a nothing position. brilliant move overall: gets a dark-skinned “conservative” female on board in a do-nothing, harmless position, neutralizes a critic, and gets a top ally appointed to the governorship of South Carolina! What’s not to like?

No need. I read further in the thread. Taking this job only to backstab the America First agenda and get fired for it would be a career disaster for Haley. I’m satisfied with that scenario.

Or maybe get some funding to take the formation of the Federal Department of Dog Catchers off the back burner and appoint Graham as Secretary of Dog Catchers.

it is, and i’d be bitterly disappointed if President Trump appointed someone with real talents to that position, someone who could be much better used at a much higher level in his administration.
Trump has 4,000 positions to fill; not all are of equal importance. Put the very best at the highest levels and put your farm team players further down.
Best bet would be to send Bolton back to UN, he knows the scandals there better than anyone and not afraid either. And ONLY Rudy for SoS. Romney should be tied down somewhere on the pastures with NO say. He should NOT receive any forgiveness at all !!!

Partly for the reason others gave...her job will go to a supporter, which will help on down the road.
And being of Indian descent could make her more credible with the cretins at the UN.
She ain’t stupid. So she wasn’t a Trumpster....if he’s big enough to include her, then I’m sure he has VERY good reasons. The man is no dummy.
Trump is raiding all our great people from offices that they hold and we need to hold on too. I love Jeff Sessions being the AG. BUT, then my state loses it strongest voice in the Senate and conservatives lose a strong voice in the Senate. I just hate it that that it takes away from all our voices in other places.

I agree, that’s exactly what the transition team is doing — dumping her where she really can do no harm, because she won’t be making any decisions on her own.
