S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley tapped to be Trump’s U.N. ambassador

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, a rising Republican star and daughter of Indian immigrants, has accepted President-elect Donald Trump’s offer to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in the coming administration, according to a person familiar with the selection process.

The move, which will be announced Wednesday morning, was first reported by the Post and Courier , comes as Trump advisers are seeking to diversify his ranks and marks his first female appointment to a cabinet-level post.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a decision that has not yet been announced by Trump’s transition team.

Haley, 44, who is serving her second term, has worked on trade and labor issues as governor but brings little foreign policy experience. Her views on various U.S. military and national security matters usually fall within the GOP’s hawkish mainstream.

Trump met with Haley last Thursday at Trump Tower in New York as part of the round of meetings the president-elect has held.

If confirmed, Haley would be replaced by South Carolina’s Lt. Gov. Henry McMaster, a top Trump ally. His ascension is seen inside of Trump’s inner circle as a welcome consequence of her departure, the person said — a way to promote them both.

I tend not to care who goes to the UN from either side. Perhaps I’m wrong on that, but I don’t see it as important other than an opportunity for a symbolic fight. They can motivate their base by claiming they stopped Bolton or perhaps Haley if they attack her, so they make it an issue. The reality is that the UN Ambassador cannot stray too far from the positions decided by the president and will not have much power even to influence President Trump on those positions.

Or did President Reagan give Jeane J. Kirkpatrick really good instructions on what to do?

That clears Lt Gov in SC to become Gov, who was the first to endorse Trump from SC. Always look behind the curtain.

I would like to THANK Trump for this appointment.

I live in South Carolina and will be GLAD to be rid of Nikki Haley!

Like most she started out conservative and turned liberal. She was against Trump most of the election.

Glad she will be gone.

If she signs on to Trump's agenda, she'll do fine - she can worry a bout the ramifications to her future career because I really have no way of knowing where it will take her.

Can't help but note that it is another unattributed rumor at this point.

"My guess is President Trump has many people visiting to throw people off the scent. Mitt Romney would be a toothless SOS and everyone knows it."

Whether it was Tweets, phone calls to Savage, or other out of the box new and old media attention grabbers, Trump is the master of getting attention and marketing his brand. He always created a buzz, and his ability to do this was better than Gene Simmons of KISS, who I thought was the master of self promotion.

What better way to get attention to your potential team and your Administrations Policies and Direction than to have a stream of real talent, hangers on, and even "you got to be kidding me!" potential picks walking through that New Jersey door and doing the smile and glad handing shtick.

More fun for us trained political observers than an a FBI agent has in a Van filming all the thugs coming & going paying their respects at a Mafia Wake and Funeral.

"Haley will be able to do Trump’s work at the UN, as she is ethnically from the second-largest country on earth, with well over a billion people. Aside from all the negatives mentioned so far on this thread, she did manage to become governor of a state, so she has some political skills, to say the least. Trump will tell her what to do and she will be able to do it. It isn’t just a voting job."

Yes and India is one of our allies in the war on terror, and up and coming "freer" nation with a growing middle class. Although those that I know that do business their speak of bureaucracy and other issues that I will not get into. My guess she sends a message to "parts" of the world that treat women horribly that why aren't you like America or India.

I think there are other motives at work in a lot of Trump plans so I’ll just go along with the guy we elected. And see what happens, he has billions and I don’t so he must be kinda smart cause I aint.

Everyone will ask why he picked her. She will have to deal with every country in the world.

She will be right at home, walking the halls with other third world goobers.

Smart move on Trump’s part..replacing this skank with a real American.

This is a terrible mistake. Nimrata "Nikki" Haley is somebody I hoped would never earn a salary for taxpayer money. There are numerous better choices. She is far too flawed.

1. Nimrata has nothing but contempt for our history as she revealed in her treatment of the battle flag, which she blamed for the Church murders. I can still see her smirking and about removing it.
2. She welcomed Syrian refugees, wants more of them.
3. Her selfishness, cowardice, and/or lack of leadership was shown during the epic flood in her state when she fled to Georgia IIRC, something that was not reported by MSM until days later and then it was "old news."

4. She has been in numerous scandals, and she is stupid. For example, her response to Obama's State of the Union address was inappropriate, more like that of a Democrat than somebody representing GOP.

These are just some of her many negatives.

McMaster was the one who broke the original SoS story and believe he has a chance in Trump’s cabinet.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina’s lieutenant governor says a member of Donald Trump’s transition team has asked if he’s interested in being attorney general.
