South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, a rising Republican star and daughter of Indian immigrants, has accepted President-elect Donald Trumps offer to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in the coming administration, according to a person familiar with the selection process.
The move, which will be announced Wednesday morning, was first reported by the Post and Courier , comes as Trump advisers are seeking to diversify his ranks and marks his first female appointment to a cabinet-level post.
The person spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a decision that has not yet been announced by Trumps transition team.
Haley, 44, who is serving her second term, has worked on trade and labor issues as governor but brings little foreign policy experience. Her views on various U.S. military and national security matters usually fall within the GOPs hawkish mainstream.
Trump met with Haley last Thursday at Trump Tower in New York as part of the round of meetings the president-elect has held.
If confirmed, Haley would be replaced by South Carolinas Lt. Gov. Henry McMaster, a top Trump ally. His ascension is seen inside of Trumps inner circle as a welcome consequence of her departure, the person said a way to promote them both.

Don’t they vote on the Security council?
Not a place you won’t somebody that may go rogue on you.
A RINO and a traitor.
If Haley goes rogue she gets fired.
Yes, fired. Just like closing the door after the cows escaped.
There are many on this forum who are so ideologically rigid that they can’t see the big picture which is she’s gone and McMaster is in. The bigger question for me is why would she take this position? It’s a greatly diminished position that once commamded influence and respect, but is little more than a figurehead spot now. She’s term limited in SC so maybe her options are limited.
This gets her out of SC and into a dead end nothing job.
Trump is doing a great job in reconciling the Party around him.
It allowed a Trump supporter to be put into the Governorship.
“empowering will succeed Trump one day”
LOL. A former UN ambassador will never win the republican nomination.
A former SC governor without a job would be much more likely to win it.
Agree with you on this. I think it will be Rudy for SoS
So if the U.N. position is so unimportant, why did the left stop Bolton from being appointed and then go apoplectic when W made him a recess appointment in 2005? Freepers always want it both ways. Dem resistance is the gauge to whether a Trump move is correct. This Trump being the second coming is going to break a lot of hearts around here.
“Maybe he can find a job for Lindsey Graham “
Credit where it’s due... Yesterday Miss Lindsey was very strong in his support for confirming Jeff Sessions and said wonderful things about him. (I’d been wondering how the RINOs would vote during hearings.) He said that if the Dems make trouble confirming Sessions, “they had better be very careful”. (paraphrased)
“It allowed a Trump supporter to be put into the Governorship.”
Exactly. Now when Trump appoints Lindsey Graham the Ambassador to Iraq, the friendly SC governor will appoint a Trump loyalist to his seat in the senate. And a swing vote in a 54-46 senate majority is turned into a solid Trump vote. 4D chess...
Why? What’s wrong with Gov. Nikki?
Disregard previous post.
Trump gains a real ally in SC governorship. Haley is shuffled off to a mostly irrelevant corner.
Precisely. Then there would be no need for Nikki. Ask her how effective she has been during ‘Twerking on the Beach Week’ every year.
What’s right with her?
If true, I don’t know if it’ll work out or not. I guess “work out” means different things to different people.
For myself, I’m 100% opposed to Trump offering ANY position to ANYone who stood in his way during the campaign. The poor man and his family went through hell to win and Haley, et al., made it more difficult. Screw them!
Even it it’s a relative minor position, he has so many loyal supporters to choose from. Every NeverTrumper, and every nay-sayer should be treated like doggie doo on the bottom of his shoe.
She's a politically-correct Establishment hack.
