Donald Trump Lost Most of The American Economy In This Election By Jim Tankersley November 22
In the modern era of presidential politics, no candidate has ever won the popular vote by more than Hillary Clinton did this year, yet still managed to lose the electoral college. In that sense, 2016 was a historic split: Donald Trump won the presidency by as much as 74 electoral votes (depending on how Michigan ends up) while losing the nationwide vote to Clinton by 1.7 million votes and counting.
But there's another divide exposed by the election, which researchers at the Brookings Institution recently discovered as they sifted the election returns. It has no bearing on the election outcome, but it tells us something important about the state of the country and its politics moving forward.
The divide is economic, and it is massive. According to the Brookings analysis, the less-than-500 counties that Clinton won nationwide combined to generate 64 percent of America's economic activity in 2015. The more-than-2,600 counties that Trump won combined to generate 36 percent of the country's economic activity last year.
Clinton, in other words, carried nearly two-thirds of the American economy.
Here's how the researchers, at the Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program, visualized that. You can see immediately what's going on: With the exceptions of the Phoenix and Fort Worth areas, and a big chunk of Long Island, Clinton won every large-sized economic county in the country.

In 2012, for example, election night ended with Romney at 57 million votes. When all the votes were in a month later, Romney had 61 million votes.

I can’t, I’m sorry. I can’t read anymore of their hysterical bull crap.
I recall reviewing the popular vote figures down through the years. The remarkable thing about the 2012 presidential election is that, setting aside for the sake of argument the Civil War election of 1864 (when the 11 states of the Confederacy did not participate) and the election of 1944 (when the country was in full-scale war mode in WWII), 2012 was the first time in history since popular votes were tabulated where fewer total votes were cast than in the previous election!
So how can you account for that, other than (1) many stayed home or (2) quite a number of votes that were actually cast got rubbed out of the totals due to chicanery?
The missing voters were Democrats. The meme in 2012 was that *conservatives* stayed home, but Romney got a million more votes than McCain from a smaller electorate.

I suggest you read Dick Morris's book Armegeddon. He disagrees with your take. He says that the white voter turnout was disappointingly low while black and other minority voters came out in record numbers to support Zero. IIRC, Morris said that about 10 million whites stayed home, and Trump's opportunity would be to get these whites out in 2016. (The book was published this past June.) Morris was pretty close to what eventually happened.
So Romney’s extra million votes were from blacks and other minorities?
White voters who stayed home in 2012 were overwhelmingly Democrats. That much is clear. Trump picked up an extra million GOP votes over 2012. Were they disproportionately from minorities, indicating whites were not enthused?
But I thought democrats were for the little guy, and Republicans were for businesses???!!!???
So now democrats and journalists hate the little guy? Wow!
No wonder she—and the journalists—lost!
Well, there are plenty of “wide-open” spaces in the Red Counties for businesses to expand or relocate.
They don’t need cities, they just need on-ramps and exits near interstate highways, and/or rail freight access.
The cities already have too much traffic congestion for efficient industrial transportation.
Oh yeah....and Ska-rew the unions.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe in California, when you renew your or get a new license, you are automatically registered to vote. The law that does this was called “Motor Voter” and has been in place since the 1990’s.
Recently, Governor Moonbeam told the Californian license authorities to issue driver’s licenses to illegal aliens.
Henceforth, illegal aliens with Californian driver’s licenses are registered voters.
How many is that, and more importantly, how many of these registered to vote illegal aliens voted?
You are referring to an extra million votes as compared to McCain in 2008. I'd presume that a lot of whites stayed home in 2008 as well. What relatively little Romney did pick up as compared to McCain were whites who voted for Obama in 2008 and were teed off at him by 2012.
Neither McCain nor Romney could generate enough of a turnout from more conservative whites, because both of them were considered GOP establishment moderates, for lack of a better description.
The end results: McCain lost to Obama by about 7 points in 2008. Romney improved on McCain's performance a bit, but still lost by 3.8 points. (At least if you go by the released numbers, which undoubtedly overlook a lot of Dem fraud and cheating.)
Again, I suggest that you read Morris's book, at least the beginning. His formula for a Trump win this year was quite prescient. (You might say Morris atoned for his poor election prognostication in 2012.)
Just to review:
Bush ‘04: 62 million votes
McCain: 60 million votes
Romney: 61 million votes
Trump: 62.3 million and still counting
