Trump has a plan for government workers. They’re not going to like it.

President-elect Donald Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress are drawing up plans to take on the government bureaucracy they have long railed against, by eroding job protections and grinding down benefits that federal workers have received for a generation.

Hiring freezes, an end to automatic raises, a green light to fire poor performers, a ban on union business on the government’s dime and less generous pensions — these are the contours of the blueprint emerging under Republican control of Washington in January.

These changes were once unthinkable to federal employees, their unions and their supporters in Congress. But Trump’s election as an outsider promising to shake up a system he told voters is awash in “waste, fraud and abuse” has conservatives optimistic that they could do now what Republicans have been unable to do in the 133 years since the civil service was created.

"And after cleaning the swamp, make all employees that are left retake the allegiance, the same pledge that are given to elected officials."

I'm pretty sure all federal workers already do.

Trump needs to set a precedent quickly: Eliminate Dept. of Education and EPA immediately on January 21.

He had job security plus little to do. The retirement is very good and not even an O-6 could fire him.

Read the comments by Sen. Ron Johnson at the end! Screw Him! He needs to be replaced because he’s a RINO.

MOST IMPORTANT - If they take the fifth regarding testifying about work they performed, they should be immediately fired and lose their pension.

Trump should incentivise all (except the armed forces) department heads to cut payroll expense.

"They are the laziest trash I have seen."

Not all of them. There are many federal workers who realized they could get a stable federal job via their veteran status, and bring their military work-ethic and conscientiousness with them. That said, the federal workforce is just too large. There MUST be a reduction because in the current state it's just too untenable. I really do feel for the good ones who are hardworking and do the best job they can, and hopefully there will be spots saved for them when the agencies are shrunk and/or eliminated and the lazy trash are washed out. But even if not, the federal workforce has to be reduced.

Just looked it up, it’s $3.5 billion! They should be given a very short time to clear up their deficiencies, then their wages should be garnisheed and their career paths blocked. Or maybe just fired and prosecuted like would be done to any of us taxpayers.

At local levels, the “public safety” unions have immense power, to get people elected, that won’t rock the boat on government employee pay, benefits, pensions etc.

But it needs to be done. A growing list of jurisdictions are near bankruptcy over pension obligations.

A lot of these employees are conservative. But the money issues overrides and they keep voting for big government liberals.

“The government is dysfunctional because no one is ever held accountable. “

Yeah, just look at the VA and the GSA as “shining examples!”
And the other thing that needs to be done is round up all the firearms in non-directly LEO agencies and dismiss the people who were hired to carry them. We should not allow all the Departments of the Federal Government to have their own little “police forces!”

How many of those will apply to Congress and its staff? I'm thinking none of them.

He can not apply any of them to Congress or their staffs.

That is part of separation of powers. the President runs the Executive branch, Congress runs the legislative.

It also will not SCOTUS or their staffs as they are another branch of government.

Did you expect him to become a dictator or just sleep through fourth grade history?

“And the Federal Gov’t was such a big proponent of affirmative action”

Yeah, try and find a white person at the Post Office! And all of those who are there have an arrogant attitude that makes me want to go over the counter!

The Post Office must be a miserable place to work.

At least there have been fewer incidents of people “going postal”

Starting to look a bit like “HOPE” by Aaron Zelman and L Neil Smith.

A good sign.

The president can't make any changes to unions or pensions or benefits or firing process. All those will take Congress. and I highly doubt they will do anything that will limit their benefits or their salaries or their pensions, or those of their staffs.

I agree. There is something very unsettling about this. Not a healthy development in a democracy in my opinion. It opens up the potential for intimidation and increases fear in the populace. Congress should have raised serious concerns/objections, but yet again, they failed us.

I don’t care about a SNL snowflake outraged by Trump, where Obama plans to live & golf fluff stories, etc. ... this is meat.

I think the first big battle is going to be budgeting.
If the `rats play their “Hey, let’s try our `shut down government and people will get tired, pressure our gutless counterparts across the aisle and fold’” hand again ... well, then non-essential personnel sit at home and don’t get paid. Period. Let them squeal.
And by non-essential personnel I mean Trump’s definition: anyone but military, public safety and public health. Excluded from `public health’ would be such agencies as the EPA and similar agencies.
Squeal li’l piggies! Like your actor heroes, a lot of you said you would be leaving govt. if Trump won. Here ya go.

“It looks like Trump is going to eliminate whole departments and change the dysfunctional federal government.”

To me that is where the real savings and freedom for ordinary citizens will be. Start with the DOE & the EPA.

And if that happens, the honeymoon with Chuck Schumer will be short-lived or non-existent.
