President-elect Donald Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress are drawing up plans to take on the government bureaucracy they have long railed against, by eroding job protections and grinding down benefits that federal workers have received for a generation.
Hiring freezes, an end to automatic raises, a green light to fire poor performers, a ban on union business on the governments dime and less generous pensions these are the contours of the blueprint emerging under Republican control of Washington in January.
These changes were once unthinkable to federal employees, their unions and their supporters in Congress. But Trumps election as an outsider promising to shake up a system he told voters is awash in waste, fraud and abuse has conservatives optimistic that they could do now what Republicans have been unable to do in the 133 years since the civil service was created.

I thought the (crazy leftist fascist) press told us that 25% of Federal employees would resign if Trump won the election. So where are they?
There is also a whole industry within federal government devoted to the politically correct culture...training, workshops, etc.
The re is also an industry with climate control training, directives, etc. At the cost of monies directed to the people’s business. People whomouth the proper code words and ideas get promoted rather than those who are productive all too often. They are all too often the non producers, too. It says tons that the so called climate expert is in Public relations and ignorant of the science,
Firing is so onerous a process that the tendacy is to push them out onto another field office or district into an all too often higher position, hence a
Fat middle bureaucracy of dead weight. When there are cut back, the trend is to cut personnel the field offices where the work is actually done and pull positions to the district or state level so the bosses’ fiefdoms are growing and protected.
Good! Perhaps somebody can give me a reason why the DC metro area should be the highest per capita income are in the country. People are moving to DC for the express purpose of cashing in on that. If people want to get rich, they should be participating in the private economy, not government bureaucracies.
It looks like Trump is going to eliminate whole departments and change the dysfunctional federal government.
1) eliminating and starting over is what needs to be done. Fixing doesn’t seem to work.
God used the flood with Noah as a new beginning.
2) There will be unintended consequences, we need to anticipate those and discuss them as best possible so there are no surprises. It is the surprises we won’t like.
3) Was reading in the Bible, God promised two blessing for every trouble. We will have trouble, but we will also have good things.
Zec 9:12 Come back to the place of safety, all you prisoners who still have hope! I promise this very day that I will repay two blessings for each of your troubles.
“We should not allow all the Departments of the Federal Government to have their own little police forces!”
I think this was Obola policy, at least his tacit approval. To the extent that some law enforcement resources are needed, those responsible within an agency should be attached to the US Marshals Service. The other agency whose vehicles I see often on the roads here in California are marked “The Federal Police!” Someone needs to tell me what these a$$holes do.
Yes, he can as long as it falls under the power of the Executive branch. And probably 90% of the federal government bureaucracy does.
Congress can vote to fund or not fund something but as we have seen, voting to fund something just puts the money in an account.
All those will take Congress. and I highly doubt they will do anything that will limit their benefits or their salaries or their pensions, or those of their staffs.
When it has to do with Congress it will take Congress but when it comes to the Executive that is his bailiwick.
Trumps first act needs to fire EVERY muslim appointee/employee, especially muslim brotherhood extremists obama works for. The muslim moles obama planted in DHS, Defense and Pentagon need to get rigorous exit interviews and polygraphs.
Mordor on the Potomac needs an arse-kicking.
To drain the swamp, you have to be universally hated there.
Hopefully. He could merge at least every 2 departments, and reduce the size by 50%.
Do you not foresee a glut of high and medium level houses on the norther VA and DC markets causing a bubble burst?
It's already government property, and I understand there is no housing crunch...
Even the people who do not work for government will see their property values plunge as a result of reining in government. <<
BULLSHIT!
Right now the government IS the economy. Changing that will have a lot of effect. There will be unintended consequences, both good and bad. When you close down a major employer, what happens? When a company lays employees off, what happens in the SHORT TERM?
Ending pension plans, decertifying unions, and changing Civil Service policies don't fall under the President's power. Which is why Chaffetz is talking about drafting legislation to do all that. The question I had, and still have, is that when Chaffetz does away with pensions in favor of defined benefit 401-K plans will he include Congress? Or the military?
If the government “workers” don’t like it, itr must be a good plan. Their laziness and arrogance is being confronted.
“Even the people who do not work for government will see their property values plunge as a result of reining in government.”
I do not think so.
Trump will need good people to run the government and good people can command good salaries.
Getting rid of the liberals will get rid of all the stupid things that depress property values like sanctuary cities, poor schools and allowing gangs like MS-13 to operate with impunity.
It will also get rid of local bloated local government that increases local income and property taxes.
Finally, it will force State and local government to be more pro business and more pro middle class to attract a sufficient tax base.
Actually it does.
You repeal JFK's EO and suddenly the rules put in place under FDR come into effect.
The union is gone and since it is gone no agreement made with it is valid.
Which is why Chaffetz is talking about drafting legislation to do all that.
He can talk about it all he wants.
The question I had, and still have, is that when Chaffetz does away with pensions in favor of defined benefit 401-K plans will he include Congress? Or the military?
That will depend on Congress. Has nothing to do with Trump. Now with the military they can not change the pension plan for those already enlisted. The terms of your original contract can not be cut. I know. My husband is a military retiree. They have tried a few times but every time they have gone to court the court has said the original contract stands. But those contracts are signed with individuals.
An agreement signed with a union that has been decertified is void.
That is the weakness of belonging to a union.
“t looks like Trump is going to eliminate whole departments and change the dysfunctional federal government. “
BAMM! Have said for years, “It is TIME to DownSize DC! Close entire Rogu/Un-Constitutional Depts., including their SWAT Teams. Let the State Governments pick any worthwhile elements.
It is the only way out of this mess. Don’t “try to fire them”, eliminate the rats nest where they work. Totally reorganize the Fed Gov.
And we can go a step further, force Congress to telecommute most of the year from their home district. If they want to play in the cesspool called DC a few times a year, fine.
Texas legislature meets every other year, unless the Governor calls a special session. It has worked well for a long time, why not with the Fed. Gov.?
Excellent policy. Just excellent!
In other words, they will have to compete with the private sector.
They’re toast.
