WASHINGTON (AP) - Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani emerged as the favorite to serve as secretary of state in Donald Trump's incoming administration, a senior Trump official said as the president-elect narrowed down his Cabinet picks.
The official said there was no real competition for the job and that it was Giuliani's if he wanted it. The official was not authorized to speak on the record and requested anonymity.
Giuliani, a top Trump adviser, said Monday night at a Washington event sponsored by the Wall Street Journal that he "won't be attorney general" in Trump's administration - a job for which the former federal prosecutor had been seen as a top contender even before Trump's election.

Mr. President-elect, use Rudy in what he does best. Law enforcement.
This pretty well tells the story of Syria.
Now, I have read some articles from sources who basically hate "U.S. military hegemony in the ME", knocking the idea that a Qatar-to-Turkey pipeline is a big deal, but, simple common sense pretty well destroys those articles. When what was discussed at which meeting does not invalidate the underlying situation.
One might wonder why the Qatar-to-Turkey pipeline could not go through Northern Iraq and Eastern Turkey. In fact, that route is on some other maps as "Plan B", but, the US has pretty well screwed THAT up by allowing Iran's resurgence and the drift of Iraq toward Iran. Disputes with the Kurds may factor in too? The terrain is rougher as well, but not impossible.
Now, there are alternatives, but they have higher transportation costs. Unfortunately, no one seems to also consider the monetary costs of this war. Perhaps it was assumed Assad would not be difficult to knock off. To the Euro's I would ask, is a little cheaper gas worth 400,000 dead in Syria, and hordes of refugees entering Europe?
BTW, I would add that if Putin gets his pipeline, then he has a double noose on Europe, plus leverage to split up / blackmail portions at will...
I agree. It makes absolutely no sense.
The people who wrote this article are full of it - imo.
Guiliani should be A.G. - I think Hillary and her cronies are scared sh*tless of Rudy and they should be.
I agree that John Bolton is ideal for SoS.
AG! dammit.
Running the State Dept, doesn't make you SOS. 2 people appointed? Bolton as SOS and Rudy to clean it ( with some Administrator Title ) out before Retirement?
The question is is Team Trump and DJT thinking that out of the box? It wouldn't surprise me...
With Dear Leader soon gone, The question will be why are we not supplying Europe the Natural Gas via large LNG Ships? A 2fer IMHO employ gobs of people building the vessels and Frack baby Frack especially in Up-State NY.
And what about our good friend Israel? They have more than they know what to do with. Dig this picture below. Screw Iran and Qatar, buy your natural gas from the good guys So Europe, you want to go Electric Cars? Good do it via Combined Cycle Plants, Natural Gas Fired. Want to do it via Nuclear Plants, Well with Sarah at Interior and loosing up the mining on Federal Lands that might happen too....
Philly.com is basically the same thing as the Philadelphia Inquirer, and is therefore as worthless as every other big newspaper in the US.
When Trump is ready, he will make his announcement on his cabinet. Until then, nothing you see or hear is real.
He's a "neo-con" globalist who has been firmly entrenched in the Beltway for decades. Nothing else needs to be said. Trump can't "drain the swamp" by appointing people who have been living in it for 30+ years.
If Chris Christie was demoted on the Trump transition team because of his ties to the Bush family, then that ought to disqualify Bolton from any consideration for this post.
It doesn't to me either. But, possibly, a person of Rudy's stature in the world as a no-nonsense litigator/mayor/leader might bode well when confronting Iran, Syria and Lost Europe. Think 9-11....
I’d heard that he doesn’t feel he’d be best for AG since he’s been out of “laywering” for so long. That would be my first choice for him, though. Can’t think of anyone better, although Jeanine Pirro might kick butt in that job.
For SOS - (#1) KT McFarland, (#2) John Bolton
Rudy would be interesting as Press Secretary if he’s looking for a much lower-level job.
Agreed with you guys, and most of the rest of the posters. I want a former prosecutor with 6 inch fangs in the AG position.
No. Christie is toxic. He won’t be in the administration.
Agree. Better there than at state. But also remember all the ‘leaked’ inside tips about who his VP pick would be. None seemed to get it right.
I love Rudy, but he’s no Trey Gowdy. That guy is the bomb. He will be attorney general and he will be outstanding. Go on a YouTube bender watching Gowdy demolish liberals. You won’t be disappointed

Rudy would be a great and smart representative for the USA, especially with all of the national security implications in dealing with the worst spots in the world.
Same here (as long as he doesn't run for POTUS). However, I would think he could be more effective at Homeland Security or DOJ.
JMO.
Not if the quote in the 3rd paragraph is true.
