WASHINGTON (AP) - Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani emerged as the favorite to serve as secretary of state in Donald Trump's incoming administration, a senior Trump official said as the president-elect narrowed down his Cabinet picks.

The official said there was no real competition for the job and that it was Giuliani's if he wanted it. The official was not authorized to speak on the record and requested anonymity.

Giuliani, a top Trump adviser, said Monday night at a Washington event sponsored by the Wall Street Journal that he "won't be attorney general" in Trump's administration - a job for which the former federal prosecutor had been seen as a top contender even before Trump's election.

Not many talking about the Supreme Court vacancy. Trump supposedly had a list of 100 possibility. Has it been published? If so I’d appreciate a link.

I’m ok with just about anybody that Trump nominates, with the exception of Rudy Giuliani.

He is pro abort and 72 years old. I want someone who is considerably younger and pro life.

Coud b that Preete fella out of New York, good prosecutor and a nod to Indian Americans that came out for Trump.

For AG... Hmmm... That's a very interesting idea, and not because of his ethnicity...

I think someone with a tremendous amount of energy, for the next several years, is needed in both positions...

I like Sheriff David Clarke for DHS - no nonsense, rule-of-law. He’d have the Border Patrol’s back. What he’d do with the mess that is TSA would be interesting.

When did he say that ? And who would fill Trey’s sopt in Congress ? We need to be careful about cannibalizing House and Senate seats.

In fact, Trump would be wise/Machiavellian to offer places to Dims from Congress that are from Red states where the Red guv can fill the vacancy created. It would pad the current majorities and give GOP replacements the incumbent advantage in 2018 and 2020. They just need to be areas with narrow responsibilities and where Trump can fire them if they don’t toe his line. In the meantime Trump can claim a “bipartisan” and “coalition” government. If/when they are fired there would be no Congressional seat for them to return to.

DHS was supposed to be the central repository of information and coordination between FBI, CIA, Border Patrol, etc.

You don’t think that is a useful function ?

“Rudy for AG, Bolton for SecState. It’s not that hard.”

Rudy is soft in illegal immigration and Bolton is neocon.

I would be happy with Rudy Giuliani as Sec of State, but I would prefer him as AG.

But whatever makes him happy - I welcome him in any top role.

Secretary of State would be a waste of Rudy’s talents. He needs to be in a place he knows inside out, like Justice. Homeland Security would be a weak second. State is not right for Rudy or Christie.

My preference for AG is Rudy G. If not, Trey Goudy, Jeanine Pirro or Christie.
