Republican President-elect Donald Trump said hes fine with same-sex marriage as the law of the land, calling the issue "settled" by the Supreme Court.
The comments in his first television interview since winning the presidency sharply contrast with his partys orthodoxy, his running mates longtime position and comments the New York Republican made during the primary.
Its law, he said in an interview with CBS 60 Minutes that aired Sunday. It was settled in the Supreme Court. I mean its done.
These cases have gone to the Supreme Court. Theyve been settled. And Im Im fine with that, he added.
The Republican Partys official platform, ratified by the party in July, opposes same-sex marriage, condemns the Supreme Courts rulings and supports proposed religious freedom legislation that critics say would allow businesses to deny services to gay people.

Churches aren’t required to marry gays. Remarriage after divorce has been legal for many years but the Catholic Church has never been required to marry divorced people.
RE: Who cares about these homos. They are going to Hell. Its not our problem.
It’s not that people care about them, it’s that INSIST on pushing this into the faces of people who do not conform.
Just look at the number of Christian businesses that are being harassed by lawsuits and the government....
Yeah, look at Indianan.
The NBA would have to hold their championship in Canada if the whole country did what they did.
We must have conservative justices on the Supreme Court.
Due to stare decisis, we won’t get Obergefell overturned but we can stop further erosion of our freedoms.
>> Hes attempting to avoid more liberal media hysteria.
Agree.
If I had to guess his real views (probably I’m projecting here), it would be that they should be treated like all other Americans. Not abused, but also not given special privileges and protections.
ABC is SCANDALIZED because Trump said fairy unions were settled law! HINT: IT’S SETTLED LAW UNTIL HE PACKS SCOTUS WITH CONSTITUTIONAL JUDGES WHO END FAIRYLAND, USA. :) It was a gotcha question and he dumped it. Now the .50 % of the pansies in America can rest easy. - for now.
Correct

Yes, it is in fact settled...at the moment.
Realistically, I’m not sure it’s wise for SCOTUS to touch it until Trump’s second term when we’ve maximized the number of judges that he can replace since you know Ginsburg and Breyer will be holding on until death.
I do worry that reversing that or Roe would cause a cataclysmic upheaval and risk our majorities a la Obamacare when we’re winning on the other issues. But, we do need to reestablish the idea of self-governance. I just don’t trust the electorate to act rationally in the wake of such a decision. Otherwise, I’d like for a lib to tell me when we should invade Australia to liberate their gays from their oppressive marriage inequality laws.
To liberals, same sex marriage and abortion is settled law, but the second amendment isn’t.
So is abortion issue by same logic... it’s settled til it’s not.
If Roe and Obergefell were overturned, responsibility for social policy would return to the states.
Each state should be able to decide what social policies are in their interests, not liberal federal judges.
In the long run, it will ease a great deal of the strife engulfing and dividing the country.

It is settled law. Rufus Q. Puffball judge said so. Until it becomes unsettled law. The same can be said of abortion. It is settled law, until it is overturned.
It was an artful dodge of a “Gotcha” question. No point in letting Leslie Stahl have her Stephanopoulos moment. There are bigger fish, Yuuge fish, to fry. Eyes on the prize.
Me neither. Fags are an abomination. Regardless if they vote for Trump. I just know when not to move the goal line on rightwing causes...something which seems lost on other so-called “conservative” Freepers.
Well, I see you understand the situation. :)
We are literally close to being drawn into a shooting war in Syria and THIS is what CBS wants to ask about? How clueless are they?
The perverts thought nothing of unsettling the law that was against them.
We should think nothing of unsettling the “law” they like.
We need to go back to outlawing homosexual acts as well.
Well considering social issues were not part of the campaign. I think what he needs to do is what he said on the campaign. Constitutional justices and. Let them sort it out. Obama didn’t bring gay marriage. Trump won’t get rid of it. The courts will.
What can he do at this point?
DOMA is not repealed, it is still there. But it will take a SCOTUS that will uphold it. So the recent court decisions can be challenged again via DOMA.
So the best Trump can do is appoint justices that will be more adhering to the Constitution than Anthony Kennedy. But those justices have to be confirmed. You see the problem here?
I have posted amendments which SCOTUS can never evade but Congress will never take them up. It can only be done by an Article V process of the States.
“Good luck, ABC, and the rest of the LameStream media in trying to drive a wedge between DJT and those of us who support him.”
Exactly. Leslie Stahl trying to trip up and put words in the mouth of President Trump (and his family): FAIL! Big time. BIG TIME FAIL, Leslie!
