Republican President-elect Donald Trump said hes fine with same-sex marriage as the law of the land, calling the issue "settled" by the Supreme Court.
The comments in his first television interview since winning the presidency sharply contrast with his partys orthodoxy, his running mates longtime position and comments the New York Republican made during the primary.
Its law, he said in an interview with CBS 60 Minutes that aired Sunday. It was settled in the Supreme Court. I mean its done.
These cases have gone to the Supreme Court. Theyve been settled. And Im Im fine with that, he added.
The Republican Partys official platform, ratified by the party in July, opposes same-sex marriage, condemns the Supreme Courts rulings and supports proposed religious freedom legislation that critics say would allow businesses to deny services to gay people.

We’ll see what a strict constitutionalist Supreme Court justice appointment in the mold of Scalia thinks about that. If he picks one of the judges on his list, it is anything but settled. He’s attempting to avoid more liberal media hysteria.
This was his position in the Primary.
Good luck, ABC, and the rest of the LameStream media in trying to drive a wedge between DJT and those of us who support him.
The Wall.
Death to Obamacare.
Lower Taxes.
Crushing the LIARS in the media (that means you, ABC).
There are plenty of other issues that can be taken care of down the road.
Get used to it.
We’re not buying your snake oil, ABC.
And he’s right. But what they don’t say is that he’s going to appoint judges who won’t be so sure it’s settled law.
I don’t know if Trump would have run if Gay Marriage didn’t pass.
I think he knew if he came out for it, he wouldn’t be the nominee, but once it passed, it was off the table, so it didn’t matter anymore.
There are two things here:
1) There’s not much Trump can do on this issue.
2) To get homosexuals out of church affairs is going to take a constitutional amendment and Congress is not going to do one. That leaves on Article V efforts at the state level to pass and ratify such an amendment.
This is not what he said. What he said is that the courts will decide, not the governor. And he will certainly appoint more conservative justices than Hillary would have done. See the comments on the earlier thread on this issue, with another lying headline.
My view about same sex marriage hasn’t changed.
I don’t recognize its legitimacy. But we have to live with things we don’t like.
Church’s should not be requiredto marry gays.
If Trump gets to put several conservatives on the Supreme Court along with the lower courts it’ll likely change back. Trump knows this. Who gave us same sex marriage? the swing girl on the court Anthony Kennedy in a 5 to 4 vote.
We can get a religious conscience law enacted.
If liberal churches/synagogues want to marry gays they should be free to do so.
As long as that isn’t imposed on any one else.
Exactly.
RE: Churchs should not be requiredto marry gays.
Other questions:
1) Should Devout Bible believing Military Chaplains be forced to officiate gay marriages?
2) Should Christian businesses be forced to provide services to a gay wedding ceremony? ( Apparently, in the Obama administration, the answer is yes, or else you get fined hundreds of thousands and your business closes <-— see Sweet Melissa cakes ). What will a Trump administration do?
You can have a president who will get done what you want done, or
You can have a president who will say what you want him to say.
Pick one.
RE: We can get a religious conscience law enacted.
VP elect Mike Pence did just that in Indiana, look what happened....
Donald seemed totally prepared for this interview. The Lobs won’t be sleeping tonight though ... Lol !!!
“To get homosexuals out of church affairs is going to take a constitutional amendment...”
It is covered by the FIRST Amendment already. Unhappily, the Supreme Court doesn’t care about the Constitution. THAT is why I voted for Trump and tried to get as many others as possible to join me.
“And hes right. But what they dont say is that hes going to appoint judges who wont be so sure its settled law.”
This ^^^^^^^
Its one of the issues that has held GOP back for a decade. Who cares about these homos. They are going to Hell. Its not our problem.
